Keep in mind that the 17k that was saved buying the car in US will most likely be spent on Canadian services. I think that the 17k staying in Canada is better than the 2-3k profit that a typical Canadian dealer sale would net. No harm done.

I think the original problem with warranty transfer was that there is a US warranty pool that is funded by car sales in the States and a Canadian warranty pool that is funded by sales up here. If there is an influx of US cars up here its obvious what happens to the warranty pool. Having said that, BMW created this themselves by having different prices for US cars and Canadian cars. Porsche has lowered the price of their cars to the point where its not quite worth it to look in the US. Don know if anyone else has done that. Its nuts.

Precisely!

The 2-3k goes to the dealer while the 14k goes to BMW Germany.

Why should Canadians pay the higher cost for cars in Canada when the US option is a viable one?

When I save money by making some occasional purchases in the US --- that money goes into the Canadian economy anyways.
