Charge for Loaner?!

I was told by Victoria BMW (Victoria BC) that loaners are free for those under 4yr warranty, but for those outside of their warranty a charge of $39.95 per day for a loaner. SA gave me some BS of this being from BMW Canada.

Curious, any other dealers charging this? Particularly interested whether those in GVR like BJ, Autowest, Vancouver BMW, etc are charging.

Thanks.

BMW Langley would've given me free courtesy car had I booked an appointment like 15 days in advance or something.

Call and book ahead of time, ask to speak to Joanne in BMW service, she should be able to comp you a loaner if she has enough lead time.

The loaner fleets are controlled by the individual dealerships and not BMW Canada. This is why some dealers will not give you a loaner if you didn't buy from that dealer.

I would be surprised if BMW Canada can mandate how each dealer uses their loaner fleet whether within or outside the warranty period.

Seems rather counterintuitive to good customer service to differentiate between in warranty and out of warranty service work. Totally understand that loaner availability is limited at a small dealership, so first come first served makes sense. I had asked to book my appointment around the loaner schedule and was told I'd be charged. I didn't talk with Joanne, so maybe I'll try to touch base with her. Just wondered if this was a common practice.

Thanks.
