Airbag and seat belt light is on my dash cluster.. wtf!

Just as the title mentioned... I have not done any work on the car myself; no electronic fiddling here. For a while my passenger seat belt (red light on dash cluster) would go off even when my passenger was buckled up and would eventually go away after a few miles.

Later it would come on more frequently and but moving the seat back and forward, it would turn off..

now I get a warning everytime i start my car and while im driving (triangle with ! in the middle of it) indicating for the airbag for my passenger. Seatbelt light never goes off now and the airbag warning is annoying the crap out of me...

I'm stuck in merced at the moment (no local bmw dealership near me except in Fresno i believe).. I dunno what to do. Any suggestions?

It's a common problem, faulty seat mat sensor or something. See if you're covered under recall.

Or just disable the seat mat. I think it's OC1 or something in ABG
