This thread and the one on the new M1 (here) are interesting in the number of people who object to the design elements of the cars that make them what they are. Think of BMW and kidney grills.

In this thread, the wheels and the striping are what people are mostly objecting to but they are the design elements that say "Alpina" to someone familiar with the brand.

Same goes for the new M1 design. Many readers object to the wheels, the louvers, and dual roundels in the rear but those are what provide the design link to the original M1.

Is this because those who object are not familiar with the previous designs or that the link to the past is not important to them?

It's understood that aesthetics are subjective, but to say ALPINA sucks as a whole clearly displays your ignorance. You probably bought a BMW as a status symbol, and are unaware of its engineering. Hopefully you will browse the below link and educate yourself.

I am a bit biased since I grew up in the 80's and am aware of all the great cars Alpina has created. One of the greatest cars Alpina built is the original '89 B10 Biturbo, a 180mph sedan that would take down many exotics of the time. I cannot begin to explain how awesome this car was when it came out. That being said, the "BiTurbo" name is quite sacred among old school BMW enthusiasts.
I know what BiTurbo is even though I'm not that old myself so I respect that. However, I think the E92 styling doesn't fit with the rest of the design cues so for me it's either all or nothing. And if I were to relive any point in my life it would be the 80s. Long live pinstripes.

thanks for posting those pics, i guess most people don't realize that Alpina doesnt have to add pin striping. I don't know that I would go with alpina here, but models such as the B7, where it is arriving Alpina'd, would be pretty cool, as long as it was done right.

I don't like those new wheels, definately stay with the classic aplina wheels. That silver one ion the post above me is tastefully done. I would have left the Alpina on the lip body colored and bumped the wheels up a size maybe. Alpina deserves some respect if you ask me. which u didn't, but I'll tell ya so anyways. I'm happy with my aero kit and iforged, though. Alpina is sort of the type of tuner I might use if I was loaded (the next level of loaded) and wanted a car delivered to me that was like stock, but totally uniqe, like a B7.
