With the newer verion of JB 2.0 chip installed in my 335 E92, I'm now using D mode almost 100% and whilst, seldom use DS or even downshifting for M mode....

When I have a comfortable distance from the car on the next lane before I cut over. Usually at 4000rpm+.

I haven't really counted but i "feel" startup on M2 is faster than M1. In the case of startup on M1, it would like jump start but with limited top speed. Shifting to M2 takes time and eventually, it may reach the top speed of M2 slower. just my 2cents. still new to my E90. will do more test then.

Apparently if you let go of the throttle a little bit for a split second so the car slows down its acceleration and then you shift to M2, it will shift MUCH faster. And then you floor it again All this happening within 1/2 sec.

Auto is boring, but I dun think M mode is all that much better - our cars are still missing the third pedal! lol...

The best way is to pick the manual option when you buy the car (assuming you are buying a brand new one from Bmw Concessionarires). Then again, if you do lots of city driving in places like Causeway Bay or Mongkok with the traffic lights and heavy pedestrian traffic everywhere, the manual can be a bit of a hassle. Of course if you do mostly highway or two-lane twisties roads, then for sure the manual is the best.

Still thinking auto (dct) is faster and easy espically in HK. I also enjoy manual mode under auto.

Tried yesterday stopping and starting the car extensively and I take back my statement above....

Seems to me now the best way is to shift, THEN 'loosen up' on the gas pedal a bit and within a split second when you feel the next gear has been engaged you press on the pedal once again... quick and smooth.

Still experimenting though.
