Police take down a man.... in a wheelchair
You can see at the end his face is bleeding bad and there's blood all over the pavement from when they slammed him face-first on the ground. He's a goddamn WHEELCHAIR! WHERE THE FUCK WAS HE GOING TO RUN? Link to a George Carlin skit on Police Brutality. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4WJ_5OtyfDo (won't embed for some reason).

It looks like they were going to handcuff him (as you could see when they first made contact), he resists arrest and they take him out of the wheelchair and to the ground.
When he begins to resist arrest, do you really expect them to subdue the guy and gently lay him on the ground? My first instict would be to get him to the ground as soon as possible. You mentioned that he can't run, well what if he resisted arrest and grabbed for a gun? Why would the police take those chances? They don't, and that's why they did what they did.

But in a case like this, they lifted him up and smashed him face-first into the pavement. As soon as they had him lifted up by both arms they had the guy, that's an end of discussion. He's paralyzed from the waist down and now also doesn't have mobility in his upper arms. Why was there a need to go directly from resisting-arrest to face-smashing him against concrete? Maybe it's just me but, I think an officer needs to take special care with those that are physically impaired. Mentally impaired, however, is a different situation.

1) if the suspect had legs that could actually move, he would have put up a better fight.
2) let this be a lesson to all - DO NOT swing and/or get stupid with cops. they give less than a half of a fuck if you are handicapped, retarded, black, or black - they WILL fuck your shit up |

so, going back to the conversation about that 8-year old kid who got pepper sprayed and everyone jumped on me for saying that there were other ways to deal with the little punk.
wouldn't pepper spray be a appropriate in this situation too? or face to the pavement is good enough since he is a grown-up?

Is this in D.C.?
I heard on the news today, wtop That this guy was drinking in public and blew three times over the legal limit to drive a car (not a powerwheels) and a source claims he can stand and walk. It is hard to tell if they yank him up or he tries to stand in the video. If he is handicapped I feel for the poor guy but if this is like Eddie Murphy in 48 hours it is an occupational hazard |
