E93 Optimal A/C Settings?
I was curious what people thought about the optimal A/C setup for the E93 with the top down to cool the driver.
-The Blue-Red knob turned fully to blue everywhere in the car -The A/C temp set to 60 degrees -Recirculating air on -Vents aiming towards the driver with a slightly downward bias -Vents set to blow out of center and foot well but not top because the ambient wind may whisk that away too quickly -Air volume setting at max but would prefer to lower this setting to avoid motor/wind noise I'm trying to get myself as cool as possible while keeping noise down. Think it would help to close some of the vents, like the far right passenger side one and the rear seat vents? I'm thinking about jimmy rigging a tube to funnel air from rear seat vents to driver. It gets real hot and muggy here but I still like to drive with the top down in as much comfort as possible so was curious what people think. I've noticed the air out of the vents can vary from cool to cold with the same settings and scenario but I'm not sure why that is. I've considered having the A/C fluid serviced but the air does seem pretty cold when the top is up and I'm recirculating cold air already. Is it possible that a motor, condenser, or filter may be hindering some cooling performance? I recently changed my under hood air intake filter. |

Everything you're doing is spot on. If you want more air in the front, turn off the vent in the backseat.
I found with my E93 that the air kicked ass when driving. It was rather weak at idle. I never did have it checked out at the dealer because the vents would measure 45 degrees driving and about 52 degrees idling which isn't bad per se. If it could just hold a constant 45 degrees that would help a ton, though. I don't know if these cars have weak compressors or what. Small air handlers? Regardless, what you're doing seems ideal for the system especially considering the top is down. I'm sure many would agree the air is so much colder driving.

Thanks. I wonder if closing the other vents increases noise just like turning up the air volume setting. I'm looking for colder air more and more air volume without increase in noise. I'll experiment a little with vent closing.

Actually even here in Texas there are some days in summer you can do this and it works! It just depends on relative humidity.

Closing the far right passenger's vent seemed to help a little. Closing the rear vents seems to help as well but I'm not sure if it's worth losing the cool air coming at me from behind.
It felt really cold as soon as the car started up then got warmer as I drove around. It seems like the car is trying to think too much and not just do what I want it to do. Typical e90. |
