M-Sport bumpers on an SE do have aesthetic value though. Whereas the ///M badge on a non- M car just looks cock.

It's like putting an RS badge on a 1.6 Focus, or a GTI badge on a 1.1 Golf. It just looks stupid, out of place, and like you should be a regular contributor on Barry boys.

Personally, I'd be more inclined to put a 320d badge on a M3 rather than an M badge on a 320d. More likely to fool folks that way.

They will notice! There are only a few people eligible to wear such a tattoo, such as:

etc

those M550d and M135 are legit, they're made together with M Power. So that argument fails. BMW didn't designate them into flagship models, but did highlight through the badge they were made with M GmbH input. So all OK there in my book. It's whether you agree an X6M is a proper M car is another story but I couldn't care less about that debate. That car is not "meant" for European market anyway.

Let's put it another way - why do you want to put the badge? What is the reason? To impress non BMW drivers? Well, they wouldn't care. To impress fellow BMW drivers ? They would laugh at you for sticking on an M badge on a non M car... Door sills, rims and steering wheels aside, the Trunk and Grille slots have been reserved for the M badge on M cars only.

I think it's OK to borrow M3 styling ques which BMW usually on purpose makes better than stock - and stick them on an SE cars.. However there is a line somewhere beyond which it becoms posing. I guess the M badge on a trunk of a non-M car is tantamount to crossing that line to most BMW enthusiasts.

PS. Buy some BBS reps and stick on the BBS caps on them and post in the US forums.... see what comments you'll get.

I'm convinced the dealers here do too. There are so many about being driven by the type of person who wouldn't dream of sticking something on their motor.

saw a Jakey 318i E46 in the great city of Dundee today (work visit). M badge on the front grille, MPower badge on the back, and some lexus style rear headlights.

What a handsome vehicle!

Disabled badge too... who wants to bet the burberry cap wearing owner, is in no way disabled themselves (unless you count disabled in the head)

I sort of half agree. There is a strong case for the M550d since it has a significantly worked over engine compared to the run of the mill 5 series but I for one don't really think the M135i deserves the badge since it is pretty much a std spec 1 series using parts from further up the range. It smacks of the old 80s M535i vs the M5 where the former was a badge and spoiler special the and the latter the real deal. A friend of mine has an plain jane E30 with a 3.2l 6 shoehorned in which he has badged 316x2. Very subtle and very effective and a million miles away from m badge clownage.

In summary: Don't piss about with the badges unless you want to look like a bell-end.

Wasn't the E28 M535i mechanically identical to the 535i? If so, blame BMW for starting the trend for nedding-up standard cars.

TBH it is all getting a bit silly at M Division anyway - the M badge on a car used to signify something special and exciting- M cars are now living on past glories IMO - the X5M & X6M were the beginning of the end for me - the new M5 weighs 2 tonnes and is the size of an old 7 series, there is nothing motorsport about the new M cars at all - sad to say but i feel that M has turned into AMG - big fast powerful cars for sure but where's the magic gone?

Almost pulled the trigger on an M5 last week but i just coudn't get excited about it - far too big and heavy for me. Maybe the new M3 will get the juices flowing again.

I think that pretty much sums BMW up completely.

I used to buy BMWs because they were focused and raw, they are now just big comfy motorway mile munchers, and to be honest other do that better.

I always think 'Why?'

Those that know what an M car is will know yours is not and will think you're a twat, and those that don't know what an M car is want even notice it.
