I have H&R coilovers installed on my 335xi. Does anyone have a set laying around that could measure the front spring length and inner diameter? Anyone know the spring rates also? Trying to get shorter springs for the front to see if I can get a little lower. Dont feel like taking them off to measure. Thanks

Front H&R springs are progressive, so they taper from one diameter to the other. I dont think you will be able to find similar lower springs, did you try removing the helper springs?

The helper springs are on the rear and the rear sits fine. I guess I have to contact h&r see what options I have. Its a shame the xi can't sit any lower on these coilovers. Thanks anyways.

looks like a standard 2.5in ID, their progressive free standing height dont tell us much. Their default rates should be around the ball park of 210f/550r lbs like most off the shelf coilovers.

So I would need a different top perch to accommodate the custom linear springs right? I've been searching for about 3hrs now to no avail. Ive seen some done on KWs but no H&R yet. Guess I have to wait till Monday to call them

Correct...check ground control for their street camber plate/perch, vorshlag offers the same. You can run standard 6in 2.5in ID and the rate of your choice with swift/ground control/hypercoils/ksport springs.

yes, im using the same setup for my koni race insert/fk coil body. Measure your shock piston diameter and make sure you state it during check out. Im not clear on what size hnr uses. mine was 14mm.

Thanks for the photo reference. Hopefully this allows me to lower the fronts some more and also stiffin up the front some.

yup yup np man, the best setup would prolly be your senario right now. since you know what you want theres no need to spend alota cash on brand new coils with soft rates and in most cases the coil does not go low enough. rebuilding a set of used coil body would be the way to go.

I spoke to a H&R engineer last week as I too wanted to know the spring rates used for the H&R coils.
They told me the fronts where progressive from about 60N/mm = 341lbf/in to 90N/mm = a little bit over 500 lbf/in at 1.2in compression.

Rears are linear and stamped with 80N/mm = 450lbs for the sedan/coupe and 100N/mm = 500lbf/in for the touring models.

They also use a longer 200mm spring in the rear for the xi compared to a 180mm springs for the RWD's.

This could be to match the higher ride height needed in the front for the xi to remain a acceptable schock travel without bottoming out and keeping the performance up.

I'm awaiting their answer if they can custom fit a 350f-700r linear combo for me, but I'm not to much positive for the moment as they said they would have to produce a custom spring for the front.

If not I'll use the progressive fronts wich seem already pretty high rated with standard 700lbf/in H&R race springs in the rear.
