got a killer deal on some Beyern Mesh wheels for a local... had to buy them at the $ he was asking...

Now my question is, how do I fix the polished lips on my wheels? The rears have some pretty good nicks in them from rocks and other crap...

attached are some pics, they nicks are not that deep - not sure if you can "re-polish" them or buff them or what?

They are Beyern Wheels made by TSW... do they clear coat their wheels?

My wheels are black and obviously clear coated on the paint, not sure about the lips though

You can easily tell if it's clearcoated or bare metal...

Take them to a good wheel repair shop.

They will be able to repair/refinish them whether the lips are cleared or not. Will run you approx $100 per wheel.

If they're clear coated, the will need to be sanded down to bare metal and re-cleared. A shop will most likely charge $100+ and it may not match the other 3 afterwards.

Clear coat will make the lip appear somewhat hazy. No clear coat looks like chrome.

it does not seem it is "pitting"... unless i do not know what pitting really is..
I thought it was more of a rust or buildup ONTOP of the chrome?

These are actual nicks in the chrome, if I rub my hand across it, the nicks are "dug in" and not "built up"....

any type of polish that I can try to buff them or re polish?

im about 99.9% sure that those wheels have a machined lip with a clearcoat on top. Like others have said, take it to a wheel repair facility and have them take a look at them. You can try to use some metal polish, but sounds like alot of work for little to no reward in my experience.

Metal polish will not polish clearcoat.

YOU NEED TO CHECK IF THERE'S CLEARCOAT ON THE LIPS.

A simple test is to actually take some metal polish and rub it in. If it does not turn black, it is not raw metal.

I have no idea, but they probably are...

Nothing I can do myself? I dont need them refinished to "perfect", just better if that makes sense?

I bought used rims for a reason - I fear 19" wheels, and wouldve cried had I bought new $2000 wheels and bent them/scratched them/nicks/etc

I only run them in the summer, and they're holding up nicely. Currently on my e46, they'll soon be moved over to the e90 so I'm unsure about the fitment offsetwise. I do know these wheels are made specifically for our cars so they should sit pretty out of the box.

Besides from being a btich to clean and fairly heavy, fantastic wheels

Try waxing them, not like your going to do more damage. Nothing to lose but time & effort.

Waxing won't fix pitting.

You need to sand the clearcoat down.

You will need sandpaper (450-2000 grit) and water (wet sanding), Meguiars mag/aluminum polish, and microfiber towels.

Sand down the lips with a low grit then gradually move up to the 2000 grit for a more finer finish. Then polish in the mag alum polish til it turns black. Wipe off excess with microfiber towel. Reapply polish until you feel the lips are to your liking.

Then you can wax if u like.

It wont look raw if done correctly. Ive polished a few sets of lips and they were a mirror-like finish.

Although he may need to repolish every other month or so, its just a cheaper alternative if OP didnt want to bring it to a shop, which ranges from $75-$100 per lip.

You missed the point. Raw as in bare as in not cleared.
Bring it down to bare metal then re-clear it, so they all match.
