*****wheel Emergency...need Help****

Washed my car yesterday. I bought rim cleaner from Pep Boys which totally f'ed up my wheels. It is a break dust / rim spray that you let soak on the wheels for 30 seconds, spray off and it is supposed to loosen the dust and build up on the wheels for easy removal.

This is your average over the counter wheel care product, that claims explicitly on the label "safe for all wheel surfaces". Wasn't cheap either. I don't have the brand name readily available as I'm at work.....

This issue:
I've used this stuff on oem alloys with no issued. I currently have SSR wheels with polished lip and bronze spokes on the car. They looked fine when I was cleaning and rinsing the wheels. Once they dried, the polished lip is completely tarnished/streaked on all 4 wheels. The bronze spokes are un-harmed. The polished finish is completely damaged.

What should I do? Are these repairable/can they be repolished? How much would that cost? Has this ever happened to anyone? Will the rim cleaner company warranty the damage?

Possible options:
1) Persue this and try to get wheels replaced/repaired from Pep Boys?
2) Persue this directly through the rim cleaner company?
3) Get them repaired?
4) Sell them as is and move onto CSL rep's?

Thanks in advance for the incite and help. I'll try to post some pic's tonight.

Bill

take pictures, cry, perhaps this is a time to get your stock wheels painted ?

check the owners manual for advisement for wheel cleaners

contact the wheel cleaner company and explain to them the situation... if they claim it wont remove paint/etc. then they are liable.

Try using some polish for the lip and buff out the damage.

Use Mothers Mag & Aluminum Polish, should be able to buff it out no problem.

thanks to everyone else who wasn't a smart ass and gave some constructive advice,

i've contacted the manufacturer of the cleaner and they elevated it to the corporate sales office. i think i may get some repair/ replacement costs from them.

Simple answer -

From now on Only use Soap and water. as long as you clean them often you wont have a problem.

Second - go get some mothers Chrome Polish / Mag Polish. This will take you some time but the wheels will be back to normal . nice and easy

Easy, killer. Sorry you have no sense of the humor on the board. Glad you got your answer. I'll leave you to your wheels now, hope the manufacturer treats you kindly.
