Hi folks, I just upgraded my headunit to a non-MOST enabled model. My old unit from my '07 was faulty, hence the swap. Problem is, I'm now getting an SOS Error because the MOST loop is broken.

Does anyone know which ECU I have to code to disable this error check? I've read at various places that it can be done, but exactly which entry to modify I haven't seen discussed.

Would really appreciate any help, and I'm sure others would too! Thanks!

Change these to nicht activ
in the the Rad2 or 2urad file.

Also look for the VO option and remove that if there is one.

You might try them one at a time .
I think its 612 I would do just the radio nicht activ first

ctuna, thanks very much for the info. I tried to code those two values to nicht_aktiv, but it didn't disable the error warning. I haven't yet tried to remove 612 from the VO.

I'm thinking, if I don't anticipate getting any dealer-flashed software updates, diagnostics, etc, and don't plan on reconnecting my MOST radio, I could go to the MOST distribution block and shift the cables that go to the radio to the unused block. In theory, that would re-establish the MOST loop and eliminate the errors, right?

The head unit is the controller for the most bus
It has be there and stuff has to be attached for the bus
to be complete.

In the head unit relocation thread they mention completing the
most bus by running an optic extension to it.
I know people with aftermarket head unit without assist installed don't seem to generate this error
when they don't put the radio back in.
Is this an aftermarket or a new OEM.

Hmm, I guess that rules out bypassing the headunit fiber optic wiring. The replacement headunit is a new OEM, but is one of the later versions without the optical outputs and is not MOST-enabled.

I read in another post (http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=503708) where you can go into the TCU module and deactivate the error, but there was no follow-up to report if it worked. I haven't tried that yet. Looking at my dealer-printed options list, I don't have $612 on the list. I do have $639, which is "Complete Prep, Cellular Phone USA/CDN". I think BMW Assist falls under this VO code, but please correct me if I'm wrong.

Still open to any other ideas you might have!

tcu as you said. Is your phone working or do you have one. Is it integrated into the new head unit?

ctuna, thanks for the links! That's brilliant, I was staring at the MAN file all evening trying to recode my new HU to HiFi and enable USB/bluetooth (which I finally succeeded in doing) and was wondering what 'RING_STATUS_20' was. I have no problem turning off the MOST bus since I don't have any use for it anymore - BMW Assist has expired, new HU has built in bluetooth/USB/etc.

I'll try that tomorrow and update on how it goes!

Can you summerize your steps when you get it.
So I take it you ordered one of the new head units
with usb and bluetooth integrated into the head unit.
I thought you would have to order one of the units with
a most bus to get it to work in and older car . Also read something
about having to change the build date to a 2010 to get the correct
software in for a newer radio.

ctuna, yes, I got one of the headunits with USB, bluetooth, HD radio, and Sirius built in. Also, this radio is non-MOST enabled. My car, being a 2007 model, has a MOST ring, hence the SOS error when starting the car. The values I changed were in the KOMBI (thanks for the links!). Setting the following two values as below successfully turned off the SOS error notification.

TCM_ALIVE_MONITOR -> nicht_activ
TCM_ID_MONITOR -> nicht_activ

To get my radio to work, the basic steps I took included:

1) Doing an sg_codieren using expertmode on the new 2URAD. This step appears to encode the radio to run in HiFi mode and writes in car-specific settings. (Note: my car already had 6FL & bluetooth from the factory, so I did not need to add these strings to the VO prior to doing sg_codieren).

2) Going into the MAN file of the new 2URAD and setting:
> AUDIO_PLAYER_INBOX_ON_OFF -> aktiv
> BT_MODUL_INBOX_ON_OFF -> aktiv
> SPRACHE_SVS -> us
These enabled the USB audio input, bluetooth phone-capability, and English language respectively.

I mentioned previously that my car had 6FL and bluetooth from the factory. It also has a Sirius pre-wire. This means I already had a USB/AUX socket in the center console and a microphone in the roof light module. The new radio came with a microphone, but I did not want to dismantle my roof to install it, especially since I already had a mic. I found out that there is a connector behind the glovebox that connects the mic and FZD to the TCU (if I'm not mistaken). So, what I did was to disconnect the existing microphone pins and wire them directly to the radio, using a simple harness that I built using hook-up wire and OEM connectors. That saved me the work installing the new microphone that came with the radio.

For the USB/AUX, there is a connector right below the rear air vents that connects the USB/AUX inputs to the MULF (I believe) at the back of the car. I was able to disconnect this connector, and use an OEM USB extension cable to route the connection directly to the radio. For the AUX, I again built a simple harness using hook-up wire and OEM connectors, and routed that to the radio as well. Both the existing mic and USB audio work flawlessly. It may just be in my head, but it seems like the new radio indexes and boots my hard drive much faster than the old one. I actually use a 500GB 2.5" external drive connected to the USB port, and my audio files are in WAV format. For me, at least, I do notice audible differences between a compressed format and uncompressed format.

I also bought a simple SMB extension cable (about $10) and connected the satellite radio antenna (the pink FAKRA connector) in the trunk to the back of the radio. At the moment, I don't have a Sirius subscription, so I can't report on whether it works.

Anyhow, that's pretty much all I did, in a nutshell! Thanks much for all your help!

Those are the values, but there is no such thing as a link to KOMBI. It's a module (your cluster) installed on the car.

If you just want to remove BMW Assist (SOS error) and not bluetooth, add +TELD to the VO and default the car.

This will leave Bluetooth active and fully functional but remove/disable BMW Assist from the car.

I tried doing this with the Carly app on my iPhone, but I am not finding these settings in my Kombi, or the other modules. Can this be done using Carlly app??

Well that really sucks! Reason I need this is.....I have an Eonon Chinese head unit and just hooked up a back up camera. Camera works great until I start the car and the SOS error kicks in, the camera signal gets scrambled. I need to either disable BMW assist, or find a way to use some fiber and make a loop to make the computer think the OEM head unit is still there...

I don't think a loop will help as the missing head unit is the way the signal
is transmitted to the Instrument (kombi module)
Don't know how this could mess up your camera as it should be
on separate wiring.

Usually this is what kills the error message in the Kombi
with and aftermarket head unit.

Or you could do a parallel mount of the old head unit.

You can't use a loop on the head unit. The head unit is the controller for the MOST bus

I did think about hooking up the oem unit as well

it is strange. The camera comm cable does hook up to the head unit and this radio has a can bus that does communicate with the car's ECU to keep some features such as steering wheel control and door open signal, etc This radio is specifically made for the E92 BMW. Eonon is the brand. Pretty cool actually...other than this issue
