LeatherZ spare tire kit does NOT clear the brakes on 330
Just thought I'd share this with everyone that the LeatherZ spare kit for E90 does NOT clear the brakes completely; there is light contact between the brake caliper and the inside of the rim.
Before anyone starts debating with me, I experienced it first hand, as I had a flat today. I changed the wheel and then as I was rolling to leave, there was grinding and abrasion, and it felt like the wheel was getting slightly stuck at certain points. I checked it out and saw that the caliper is touching the wheel. I decided to grind it out for a few miles and go to Sears to get my new tire. By midway, it wasnt so abrasive anymore, which means something got a little "polished" hah. You can still buy it, but I'm just warning people. It's fine to just use for several miles to get to a tire store or something, but dont use it long term. It does it's job as a "temporary use" tire. And no, I would not rather have runflats, before people start saying that. FYI it was the rear right wheel/tire.

Yeah, run flats FTL. Your brake caliper might need to be checked depending on how much contact there actually was.

Thank you for confirming this and the trouble you went through. I guess this is only a solution for 32x owners. Has anyone thought of any spare options for the 33x owners?

wow, I follow this spacesaver spare stuff pretty close. I walk away from the topic for a few months and leatherz now offers a fitment kit (RE spacer/bolts). Whatever works works I guess.
E90 328, 330, 335 and M Z4 cars require the Space Saver Spare Fitment Kit. What about E92 335 clearances? Are they same as E90? I know alot of you guys here run spacers in the rears. Anything anyone want to comment about running the RE spacer + spare other than taking precaution when driving on a spare in the first place. How dangerous is running spacer in front, etc...? |

I was all for the whole spacesaver idea for long trips, work, whatever you personally need it for, etc. But, it's getting damn expensive. I rather spend the money on some rims and throw one of the stock wheels in the trunk if/when I prefer.
spare $235, spacer for spare $60, extended tool kit $135 (or cheaper alternatives obviously). If i'm purchasing an M mobility kit anyways I might as well just be more dependant on it and forget the spare. To be honest, the times I do decide to carry a spacesaver the added weight/space is obviously not of concern. By choosing this route we are making a conscious sacrifice. So for me it's no different than throwing a full size in the trunk. I'm settled . |

I am going with the Continental repair kit. Worst that could happen is you mess up the sensor with the latex, and you're out $50. It has been years since I had a flat, It does not seem worth it, all the trouble and expense to get a spare, spacer, jack, and tool kit.
