Just had a callnfrom a technical manager. He said that when they reassembled the engine, they installed new hydraulic lifters. When they tested the car, it was throwing engine errors. This was due to the fact that the lifters were not bled properly when installed. This has now been done, the car is on an extended test drive now, and if it is OK I should be picking it up tomorrow.

What does the above mean? Does it sound plausible?

The lifters pump up on there own with oil pressure. There is no proper bleed procedure,but to hold your foot on the gas.

He mentioned something about driving at 2000rpm for a while.

Anyway, the question is, am I being sold one and when I pick up the car the problem will still be there, or could this be the end of it?

I'm not an expert here, but I think that what you said sounds plausible. I've never done it or seen it done, but I've heard of people bleeding them by doing something similar to what you said. Keep it at around 3000 rpms for 15-20 seconds and then let it back to idle. Repeat several times. This is just what I've heard though.

The car threw a CEL while being tested yesterday.

My car sputtered yesterday on the way to work and gave me the engine malfuntion warning and SES light came on. It's not under warranty, but I took it to the dealership because I thought it was the HPFP (which would obviously be covered). They called and left a message a few minutes ago telling me that it was throwing off multiple codes, including injector failure. This is after the $145 for a one hour diagnostic. They want to do more diagnostic to see what is wrong with it. It sounds like they are preparing to rip me off. Should I just pay them the $145 and pick the car up and take it to a local shop that specializes in BMW & Mini...or would you guys recommend having the dealership do the work if it is an injector problem?

Bump to an old thread, looks like it's relevant... I'm going through virtually the same thing as the OP now. Dealership managed to uninstall my PPK and return the car (2010/N54) to me once with the issue unresolved... I took it back in and they've reinstalled the PPK but still had trouble diagnosing just what's causing the rough idle, hesitation, and apparent misfires.

They've had my car for nearly a week now and haven't been able to give me a diagnosis, although they say they've been on the phone with BMW engineers in Germany. They're replacing all six coils, injectors, and spark plugs. We'll see if it's fixed after that.

I am prolly about to go to the same thing. They already replaced injectors, spark plugs and fuel sensor but it made the cold start misfiring worst.

Well, all plugs/injectors/coils replaced, but they say it isn't fixed. They've been uploading data to and getting advice from BMW engineers in Germany, but so far no dice. They have no clue. In the meantime, I'm racking up miles on an F30 loaner. And feeling annoyed.

Well, I don't know what else they did, but it's fixed. Cylinders 1 and 6 were misfiring, and they diagnosed that the injectors were leaking and there was a lot of carbon building.

Replaced all injectors, spark plugs and coil packs, as noted above -- no mention of walnut blasting, but the beast is back!

so how did they finally get approval for the real fix of:
6 x injectors @ $150/each from tischer
6 x coils @ $40/each from Autohausaz
6 x spark plugs @ $70/set everywhere
