Any working de-icer sprays?

BMW manual says not to scrub the ice that can build up on the windshield, but to use de-icer sprays. Are there any that really do the job? I remember Rain-X deicer review in Canadian Driver - nothing to write home about. For the light snow it can remove I don't need deicer, just a soft brush. But what about handling serious thick ice build-up? Anything?

I've used both de-icing washer fluid and bottled spray in the past. They work fine to slush up the ice, but you'll still need a little elbow grease. They only work to a certain temperature, too.

Better yet. Whenever you know it will be freezing rain, put a plastic sheet on the windshield and close the doors on it. that should do it.

How fast the sprays work: 1min, 5min waiting required?
Which are more efficient then others?

Takes about 5 minutes. If you want guarantee fast action use rubbing alcohol or straight isopropyl alcohol but it will strip the wax off your car.
