Margins in Audi's suck. What's worse, is that the person cross-shopping a BMW with a good deal has more of a discount than the Audi. In order for the Audi dealer to match the BMW deal they have to lose money... not that it matters to the customer. The gross in the $73k RS4 we just sold at sticker (2 the same day) was only $5k.

You should look at another dealer's payplan with the numbers you are putting out. At my store you would easily make over $100k on the low end of your average. On the upper end, close to $200k. We only work five days a week in high-line.

i do internet so i get paid on volume not on gross though. so for me when i start to hit 17, 18, 20, 25 a month thats where the money comes from.
so i sell 99% of everything AT INVOICE with no profit what-so-ever for the dealership.
just my job. Audi's have nothing in them period.

I wouldn't mind doing internet sales, since you can give people a really good price without battling your manager.

I dont want to bring this thread back from the dead but I was reading this with my collegues over lunch and we thought it was pretty funny. First off let me say I am a sales consultant as well. I sell Nissan. I started april 1st and have 112 cars out the door to date. (8/17) In 17 days I have 16 cars out. I am the top sales at my store and out sell and out gross everyone and I'm on track to make around $135k this year. I am averaging 23 cars a month working 55 hrs a week. Whatever that works out to be an hour im sure its very decent for a 20 year old.

As far as BMW goes I love the product, however I would never sell it. In a few year when im in my mid 20s I want to goto Lexus. Does anyone know what the markup is in a lx400h or a ls430?.. about 9-11k markup. Sell one of those at sticker your profit on the front end is about $2000. At out lexus store the top three sales constultants are making over $240k a year. Yes 240k a year. Average sales guys make about 150k working reg 40 hr work weeks. BMW has a very small markup (its not far off from Nissan) and ever thought its a great product, its harder to move. If anyone really wants a easy way to sucess and you love cars, and get along with people well, then this industry is a goldmine. I recently got my BMW lease (employee discount) and also just put a nice down payment on a 2 family house that I am renting out to 2 families. I am profitting $800 a month from that on top of my commissions and bonuses. In all honestly I am not trying to brag by any means I am just trying to shed some light on the industry.

The real money (for most people) is in management... Sales Managers and F&I Managers can make some good money with a good pay plan in a good store. General Sales Managers and General Managers will definately make a good income in a good store... Unless you are one of the top producing salespeople that regularly puts out big volume and makes big gross, you're going to make more money in management. Rarely, I do hear about great salespeople taking a pay cut going into management, but for most people this isn't the case.

In our store, we're very reluctant to give out numbers on a car if the client has not driven it. If you're going to try and grind us, we're going to make sure that you've driven (and you like) the car. So, no, we don't have a rule against test drives!

your also not just going to let anyone go in and drive an M5 either im sure. We only let some people drive 350Z's.

My good friends sister works at a southern california dealer, I see her every few days, I know for a fact the makes between 60-80 a year, and it doesn't seem like she works all that many hours..

exactly... a 3er, 5er, X3, X5, etc... you're going to drive it first! A 6er, M car, etc., in that case we're going to do a bit of qualifying first and make sure that you're "real".

It is sad how many people wont even go into a dealership and nickle and dime you to death and they dont even know if they like the car yet!!!! We get so many emails with false contact information that are these "or else" scenarios. Like, I want this car at $500 over invoice or else I am going somewhere else! But, they are so paranoid for some one to contact them, that they leave a false phone number and the wrong email address. Consumers think they are getting smarter, but in fact they are getting dumber. It is quite sad, I dont understand why people wont even try it before they buy it, a car is one of few products that you can do that!

IraXI, congrats! good job for doing well for yourself, but the dealership you work at must be very busy, because I know some people who work at a chrysler store in a very busy area and can sell Dodge, Jeep or any Chrysler car and the top guy there makes $60,000 a year. At this store they used to make around $110,000 for the top 2 guys. Live it up while you can!

For example, if you make $100,000.00 living in Manhatthan, thats the equivalent to making $41,078 here in Phoenix. If you rent, its a little better. Its makes the equivalent of 100k in Manhattan is same as making $67,640 here in Phoenix. So, the moral of the story is, if you move to NY, make them give you a crazy high raise to keep up with the cost of living up there!

It's useful if you plan to move to another city and want to know what the approximate equivalent is you would need to earn.

Also, on a side note, I know saying initially just "IT Consultant" sounds cool and mysterious, but its pretty vague. Saying you're an "IT Consultant" is pretty ambiguous. I know later on you became more specific, which is pretty much a requirement from such a vague term, but I mention this because some kids are going to scan through this thread and not read all the posts and then go in to a firm and be like "I want to be an IT Consultant when I grow up" or some new college grad will say that to some random HR department and sound like a fool. It's like saying you're in "Sales", but you could be selling 10 million dollar commercial real estate, selling encyclopedias door to door, selling your advice as a financial consultant, selling your time as an escort, selling cars, selling advertising to clients, who knows. Better off saying exactly what you do within IT, as the one guy said, Network Manager / CCIE. Or Business Process Manager or whatever. I can think of probably 200+ jobs that can qualify as an "IT Consultant", and that includes the newbies at the help desk (and all the way up) that are on contract and making $15.00/hr but call themselves IT Consultants because they are on contract and therefore feel they are a consultant. (and of course, technically, they are, but what KIND of consulltant is what really matters). Sort of like someone asking what you drive, and your answer is "a car". I think they meant is it a Ford or BMW or P-car or Hummer or Honda or what.

I, unfortunately, understand having lived in Bergen County for a while. It's sick that property taxes in Jersey are so bad that people are moving back to NY just to get away from them. Hell, you pay $100 a month just for EZPass so you can sit on the Garden State Parkinglot and inhale fumes for a few hours daily Or, for a relaxing 45 minute mental vacation, jaunt across the GWB just about anytime of day .
