Fog-ish residue on wheels?

Drive a 335d m-sport, went to clean the wheels today and found that i have an almost foggy looking residue on the two rears, not sure whats going on. I've only ever used standard griot's car wash as well as speed shine to clean the wheels. one has been repaired by a reputable wheel shop due to curb rash, so i don't believe that is related.

I'll try to attach pictures a bit later.

Wheel shiners tend to leave haze that should be wiped off. If it's cooked on there from the heat, wax should do the trick.
