You're the only one on the forum who could generate 6 pages and over 110+ replies just for talking about nasty exhaust tips lmao...

Had tried doing the interior of the tips with brake cleaner and a dofferent type of wool, but did not work, although one of the bmw technicians recommended ot.

Going to do this soon. So, my question is do you use the steel wool with some sort of cleaner or with the polish? Thanks in advance!

Sorry for the Crappy pics. It had just rained and the humidity is 100% at 90 degrees Sprayed and wiped down with rim cleaner, then applied mothers metal polish, then steel wool 0000 grade, then a wipe down and reapplied polish again.

Before:

When i bought the car from the dealer used, the tips had all that crud around them and this is what happens when the previous owner does not clean the tips for 3 years. It eats away the metal. The area is on the lower part of the tip and this was kind of a during picture.

I put a coat of polish on, but didn't work it in, then took the steel wool to the polish to at least have some sort of lubricant.

I had the same problem as those above and so i tried the steel wool yesterday the 0000 grade and it RUINED the finish on my 2008 335i tips. I have the dull finish on mine so maybe they changed it after 2008 but please BEWARE with the steel wool. just do a test spot first down under the tip. You dont want to end up with scratched tips........

Yea steel wool is not a good idea. If you want to take a conservative approach some simple rubbing compound with a rag would be better, followed up with a metal polish and buff.

Use it on my brothers headlights to clean them and on the boat too. That stuff is pretty expensive, what is it 25$ for a tube?
