PM member jtsherri - he makes very nice plastic spacers to not only space the subs up so no trimming of factory housing is necessary, but he also includes spacers to go between carpet and factory sub cover so that it may be re-used without any chance of the sub hitting the cover during excursion of coil...

The best speakers that fit in our midrange locations are from Dynaudio, the Esotar2 430s. I have personally not heard them, but the expert reviews seem to indicate that they are the bee's knees. They should be, at a retail of about $1400 a pair, and that does NOT include any tweeeters or crossovers....

Hi all -- unfortunately, I bought my 2010 E92 without knowing how terrible the base audio system sounded. I was so infatuated with the engine and everything else that I forgot to check With that said, I've read through a number of these posts looking for an upgrade. I do realize that there are limitations to the mounting depths, especially in the E92. I'm looking to upgrade the sound system, but not necessarily spend a ton of money on an MS-8, etc. Does anyone have any other configuration suggestions other than the morel/ms-8/jl or BSW combos? My budget is around 1k. Thanks in advance!

Why not the BSW KIT ( I have a 10% off coupon) so that's $475 incl shipping With a jl audio xd600/6 ($350 on ebay) and the technic harness ($75 i think) and sws-8 ($220 for 2 on eBay) That's 1120 |

Sorry, no room for any real subwoofer down there. It's not just the physical depth restriction, but also the amount of airspace BEHIND the woofer. I crammed some 10" Morels in there, but they don't make 'em like that anymore...

Speaker Size in front doors
Been reading a few posts, esp from VP Electricity and I am now more curious. It seems that a few 5.25's will fit in front doors, but am wondering if that is best route. A bigger driver will (all else equal) play lower and allow the 8" underseat to play less frequencies that are directional (more like a true sub). If i am looking to upgrade without adding a sub in the rear, wouldn't this be the best approach?

If you upgrade the underseats it will be plenty of bass
It will be more bass than you can believe .
The 5's will probably plug the mid bass hole a little better than 4's If you get wide range undeseats it will help the mid range a little or you can get underseats that will play lower and massage your butt such as sws-8s |

Did you install your own or use a local shop? (I'm trying to find someone local with experience, ideally with the e82 doors/systems.)

Keep in mind, that the difference in midbass between a 4" and 5.25" driver can easily be made-up by the underseat midbass drivers. However, the "hole" in the upper midrange frequencies may not be possible to be plugged, not even with heavy EQ. The ideal set-up in our cars, utilizing the OEM locations, is: 4" components in doors 8" dedicated midbass under seats 10" or 12" sub(s) in trunk Or, use a 5.25" component system that has a low crossover point, somewhere around 2500Hz would probably work. I'm not sure if that exists, however.

BTW, there is an excellent deal available right now on the Boston Acoustics S50 components. They have been discontinued and Boston is giving them away for $70 shipped.
Link: http://www.bostonacoustics.com/S50-P592.aspx They are on my list and should fit depth-wise, but I have not seen anyone install one of these. Also, Boston (AFAIK) does not publish the crossover points of their speakers, so they may or may not be ideal for our cars. Anyone want to try?
