Run Flat/Stability control error
I am new to this forum and to the Bimmer world. I just purchased a second hand 2007 325i (26k KM done, pretty well maintained). The dealer informed me upfront that the car is throwing some errors and he thinks its a DSC pump failure and would cost me about $2K in India to replace and would be my cost to bear to which I agreed (I thought there would be cheaper ways to fix it, or probably it won't be a pump error at all). So I have been driving the car for the last 2 weeks (and loving it) with the errors but now will try to fix them. Here are the screenshots when I fire the engine -
I haven't taken the car to read the error codes yet, and based on my research so far these errors can be either due to sensor failure in the tyres, sensor failure in the steering (I do notice that the steering rest position is slightly towards the right), or it might because of the DSC pump unit failure. I just wanted to take an opinion on this forum first. |

Get codes or you're gonna get a lot of hypothesis and conjecture.

there could be things from alignment, wheel speed sensors, to dsc pump failure etc, there are many possibilities. It would make sense time and money wise to have the error codes read first. That way you have a direction to go in order to solve the issue.

On a slightly separate note, do you think it is beneficial to buy a diagnostic kit? How easy is it to diagnose such error codes and is it even worth investing the money?

5DD0 5DF0 5DF1 So I guess it is the DSC pump then. I heard there is a repair kit available. How much? How much is the entire unit for?

There is a maintenance kit available for it, which is priced at £140 plus VAT in the UK, and takes around a couple of hours to fit. It's tricky, and, from what I've read on here, one slip and it's a new ABS pump, which isn't cheap (£800?)
Mine has the pressure sensor failed code within the pump, so, next week, I'm having mine done at the local dealer, for piece of mind above all else. Also makes sure they do a fluid change on the brakes also :-) |
