She didn't seem to understand why I didn't want to wait 5 weeks driving around on a cracked wheel!

Cross your fingers for me, I will advise on Friday!
Yeah it doesn't take long, they just allow for all possibilities it seems. I've sat and waited each time. And yes, you do want it done ASAP. You don't want the wheel getting out of shape as it will fail the test.

Do they need the wheel on the car to do the run out test or do they take it off and put it on a machine?

I assumed they took it off the car but could be wrong?

Sweet. Makes sense. I can just drop a wheel off then and I don't to worry about no comms and then suddenly, 'oh, you can't pick your car up today' when I chase.

Currently sat in the Sytner garage waiting for the keys back.

They explained prior that BMW UK tend to only accept crack claims on 225 M Sport alloys. I explained these were the alloys I had (they hadn't seen the car yet) but this clearly shows they have accepted there is an issue (we all know there is anyway!).

Fingers crossed it passes the run out test and they can apply to BMW UK for a goodwill replacement!

So did they come to a conclusion today or will it take longer?

Just got off the phone. BMW UK have accepted the goodwill and will cover the cost of a new wheel

They said there'd be a labour charge of £130 to take the old one off, take the tyre off, put the tyre on the new one and put the new one on the car... I said no chance and 60s later the manager said they'd do it for free. Imagine the amount of people who don't argue and get ripped off like that!

Anyway I'm over the moon, £30 paid for the run out test and in return Im getting £500+ parts and labour!

£130! Chancers...

Result though. It is seriously all about persistence with these things.

Nice one!

Can't believe they tried it on with tyre removal!

I know! I can only imagine they wanted £130 because they were going to paint the new one black to match the other three? They didn't say that but that must be it?

Either way I'm very happy!

I didn't bother with BMW, it was just outright ridiculous when I went to them with my cracked 225.

They also wanted money to perform a run out test, the results of which are sent to BMW Germany to determine whether or not its a manufacturers defect (hardly an independent test is it!?)

They then said if it comes back as our fault, we'll cover the cost of a new wheel which was quoted as something like £550+VAT but we won't reimburse the cost of the test. If it isn't our fault then you just have to pay for the test...oh and please be aware as your wheel is cracked then there's every chance we won't be able to fit the tyre back onto it so you won't be able to drive the car away

Oh and we won't give you a loan car either so the two days it takes to get the results back from the test, you'll be without a car.

So let me get this right...they wanted to keep my car to get results for a non-independent test, for something which 'might' cost me at least £650 and if the result came back negative then they 'might' not be able to re-fit my tyre and it'll cost me...£650. So either way my car is just sat at the dealers unable to be driven. If the result comes back positive it won't cost me anything other than the 2 days without a car and the 1 week they said it takes them to order in and fit a replacement wheel.
Oh and I will 100% pay for the run out test no matter what the outcome? Oh yes, excellent value proposition there BMW, thanks!

So what did you do? Buy another set of wheels?

The only thing I could afford to do at the time (discovered the crack 1 day after buying the car) I got it welded. Temporary measure of course, non RFTs fitted.

Sounds like your dealer hasn't a clue!

I paid £30 for the run out test, was waiting for 90 minutes in the waiting area (took work with me to ensure I wasn't bored) and then drove the car away straight after. I got a call the less than 24 hours later saying BMW UK have agreed to pay for the new wheel and now it's booked in for the swap.

Yeah that's why I walked away. I figured I'd rather get 4 fully refurbished non cracked wheels from a reputable place with new tyres than stump up that money, time and effort for 1 wheel.

I don't blame you to be honest!

I went for it with the idea that if it fails I would get it welded and then save for a set of csl wheels or similar

If you had 4 cracked wheels then it sounds like your wheels hadn't had an easy life. Chances are you'd not pass the run out test on a single one anyway.
