Brake "corrosion", BMW maintenance program

Bear with me a second on this. Bought a pristine '08 335x sedan just under a year ago and live in SE Michigan. Got it certified from a BMW dealer with both an additional 3 year warranty and free maintenance. I had specifically asked if the brake pads and rotors were covered and was told yes.

So, now with 55,000 miles a dealer is telling me the pads and rotors need to be replaced. However, because of rust on the rotors and corrosion I have to pay for their replacement. Seems pretty outrageous to me.

Similar experiences or thoughts, suggestions?

Buy some aftermarket stuff at a fraction of the cost and never have to replace it ever again. Hit up IROTORS.com I bet for under $600 you could get everything and on top of better braking performance, get rid of all that brake dust.

I just purchased R1 Concepts rotors (e-coating on hats and vents to minimize winter corrosion) per another members feedback and am pairing these with stop tech pads on a daily driver. I hear the stop tech rotors are also a great oem level replacement. Happy deal hunting, lots of great info on this board!

'Corrosion' that's pretty funny

The rotor hubs and calipers on my new 328ix were rusted and looked like shit 5 months after I bought the car new.

I ended up having my calipers powdercoated Black. While in the dealer for maintenance, they had a new 6 series on the lift and they were painting the calipers/rotor hubs - when I asked, they stated the buyer was unhappy with the fact that the brakes rusted immediately and looked like shit - so he told them to fix the problem, or he was returning the car...

I just ordered a new set of crossdrilled/slotted rotors from ECS Tuning as seen here:

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=687835

Didn't need rotors, I know that being crossdrilled/slotted don't really afford much of a braking difference on a street car - but I simply like the looks

At $149 for the front Pr + $129 for the rear Pr - can't go wrong. I'll be posting up pics as soon as I get them installed...

The entire idea behind the program is BMW standing behind their quality parts. If their parts are rusting, that should be more of a reason for them to replace t hem under their program than less.

In short, that's an obnoxious statement. You have the program, and your brakes are covered. The corrosion should actually bring into question whether there's more work to be done rather than just pads and rotors. I'd tell them you're getting a third party shop to also check out the calipers and the rest of the suspension system. I'd be surprised if you don't need new struts and shocks too at that mileage.

Thanks guys.

That's why I go to this board. It's a damn shame such a nice car has to be stood behind by a bunch of obnoxious jerks.

Two dealers refused the service. Had to go back where I bought it 200 miles away - closest dealer that had a 335x with manual trans.

Thank you Mark at New Motors in Erie, PA.
