I can't speak for the new 2013, but I have 2 2012 S5's with the V8, and I feel like my 2010 n54 335 was definitely quicker the the s5's I had. My 335 had the full bmw performance package and was pretty close in performance if not almost the same as the current 335is, I even feel my 2012 335 with the N55 is quicker, the V8 and quattro are heavy, not sure how the new V6 feels, havent driven one yet.

I believe the PPK2 has the added cooling as well, I know in mine I have the 320 tune and added cooling.

Both great cars.
I was deciding between them both as well. Went for the 'is' because of the handling, and the looks. I just like the look of the 335is better. The Audi's are a dime a dozen and for some reason, a base A5 looks just like the S5. Also... funny story. I was in a parking lot getting a drink with some friends and a man came up and commented on my car. He had the S5 and said he test drove the 335is after and automatically regretted his decision to get the Audi. (He then continued to tell me that he sold the S5 and just placed an order for an M3. )

I was cross shopping between the 335is and S5 when I was looking. I went with the IS because oF DCT and it was $4k cheaper when fully loaded. The bad gas mileage of the S5 didn't help it either.

As one can see from the fifth gear video the overall difference between a regular sport pkg 335i and S5 V8 is slightly in favor of 335i. However, I believe the Audi S5 with supercharged V6 is slightly faster then the V8. Also, the supercharged V6 is slightly more agile due to less weight hanging over the front end.
There was a comparison of 2010 Audi S4 with this supercharged V6 that supposedly beat the 2009 335i sedan and was faster. I think the difference might be less with 335is. However, I think I would have to give the edge of 0-60mph to the S4 due to AWD setup the quarter mile might be a tie. One thing is for sure edge in steering wheel feel would be in 335is favor as well as the exhaust sound and cooler wheels.

I can honestly say that when i test drove the IS with the DCT i feel in love right away, the speed in the shifts are simply ludicrous. I didn't get a chance to drive the manual but overall i don't regret any of my choices that i made for this car. |

depends on what your using it for... personally i'm not driving around a track all day so shit like quattro and nicer interior are more of a priority over performance. There is only so fast you can go around town and on highways. (without getting ticketed).
As far as the audi is a dime a dozen... i see more 328 and 335 where i am than anything, hardly see any S5's. |

I can't say the same about the car I traded in for the "is". My old G37 had me wanting to get rid of her after 6+ months of ownership. Nothing wrong mechanically but the materials used felt cheap especially the leather seats, they did NOT hold up well compared my 335is. The waiting it going to be a painful for the next 2-3 months. I had to do a special order as well since I wanted everything to be exactly how I wanted it. But when you first lay eyes on her in at the dealership and take her our for the test drive you will realize it was worth the wait. |

I would personally love an S5 over a 335iS because of the interior and overall looks--I think the S5, although arguably, looks much better than the Bimmer in person. Keep in mind that the S5 is mainly a rival against the regular 335i, to begin with. However, looking at the price, it fits both the i and iS categories. The iS will be better handling on a track, but the Quattro of the S5 will make it much better in weather conditions; it is also a bit more comfortable on the road, and more GT-feeling, so to say. If buying new, I'd personally go with an S5--or, within the same price range, a brand new, M-sport 335i sedan (F30), which is about faster than even the outgoing E92 iS. Both the current S5 and 335i are the outgoing models of their generation, so either wait for the new Audi or get a new 335i M-sport (it offers more horsepower over the standard F30). Unless, that is, if you're wanting the coupes. Test drive both rivals. That will be more than a thousand descriptive posts. Both cars are fantastic in their own regard, and both cars can and will be argued over each other. Here, of course, more people lean to the iS, because after all, this is a BimmerForum. Go to the Audi forum and you'll have vise versa. It's all about preference to which you value most. The iS is a sharp knife in what it does best, but the S5 holds its own respectable ground, thus leading to personal preference of each driver. I personally would be drooling all day over either or.

Why is the S5 mainly rival to the 335i and not to the IS??? Price, HP, Performance, Equipment...all is closer to the 335IS. F30 335i Sedan is NOT faster than the e92 335IS, where do you get your info??? Does the F30 M-Sport really get a HP boost over the standard F30 335 Sport??? I would be surprised if true... |

335is
Ok, I gotta chime in here. I have owned a 2009 335i X-Drive and recently traded that for a 2011 335is. The 335is is quite a bit more responsive than the 335i. If the F30 is based on the N55 engine (I'm unsure of this), there is no way it would be "faster" than a N54 with overboost. Just not possible. My 335is still surprises me at times when accelerating. Can anyone say for sure if the F30 335i will be using the N55 engine?

I must say - I love the 335i e92 looks, and would buy one over an S5 (that's why I'm here), but the S5 is one of the best looking non-exotic cars on the road. The 335i looks svelte, while the S5 is more muscular.
