I've been doing this for years and go to peoples houses and only charge $90 for this service....I'm usually in and out within 2 hours.... If I were to charge anymore, it'd be considered a ripoff

winrar, pshop, and nero yes can be downloaded. so can windows. but the windows cd you download won't let you boot to the reformat screen. you can upgrade but can't reformat. a reformat is either way deleting everything on your laptop and starting fresh. so either sticking a vista cd and reformatting or windows cd and reformatting doesn't make a difference as everything will be deleted and your laptop will be like the first day from the box. |

do a full format, restore, install all updates, programs, clean out all the unneeded things starting up, configure the network if needbe, i have all updates on a cd so i take care of that as well...dust the pc out if needed which they usually all do...all the good stuff....pretty sure the same stuff you'd be doing

I have Vista on my VAIO. usually when i want to reformat my desktop, i just put in Windows CD and go into bios and boot from CD. and it'll let me reformat.
But with Vista, you have to have a program that'll wipe out your HD first before you can boot from the XP CD correct? that i don't know how to do..

reformating and configuring PCs are child's play. I might be generalizing here, but I'm willing to bet that the majority of the forum members are pretty computer-literate.
and yeah, offering to install pirated softwares? good luck!

I'm with everyone. I doubt you'll be able to get any business reformatting for the members on this forum. Even if you reformat a local person's laptop, not many or at least I will not risk sending my laptop through any type of delivery service.
You should just advertise for the local people. That way they can drop off the laptop to you or you can pick it up. Try posting this in the regional forum. GL!

90 bucks is cheap. If someone wants me to fix their puter I charge them at least 70 bucks an hour. That way they don't call me for pidly shit.

I've been doing this myself since i was 11....do people really pay for this simple stuff? gosh...what happen to the world. Good service nonetheless.....people are getting lazy. Anyone wants to have a custom PC built? You get all the parts, I put it together, install Win/Linux/Sol etc for $100 (local only)

hl0m4n,
Not trying to quench your fire but man you really need to be a bit more tactful on how you advertise your services. I know you think that this E90post forum is really one big family but in some senses, it is and there are some family members that might rat you out to the "appropriate" people. Offering to reformat someone's computer is legit enough and no one can say jack about you chasing the dollar but you might want to advertise these "extra" services once people call you and ask you for other favors. I've been building PC's and stuff for others for a long time and back then I would install pirated software. Now as an adult, it's safer for me to just sell legit copies so I don't lose all of my hard earned money due to some lawsuit. |

yeah...but 90 is a flat fee for restores b/c it could take a few hours and they won't be happy campers paying my hourly rate. Generally I'm at 75/hr res. and 90/hr business.....i have a couple of customers i've had for about 5 years who are regulars and they are at 50/hr
