Yeah - realized that right after I posted. I still think the 2009 328i coupe on the staggered 18s felt better than the 17s on my 2007 335i sedan in terms of compliance... spring fever? coupe vs sedan? 2007 vs 2009? 335i extra engine weight up front?

I'd like to know if going from the RFT 17s to staggered 18s non-RFT would actually be a fair trade on ride compliance, 4-season vs. summer notwithstanding? I'd consider swapping the 17s for winter rubber and then picking up the 18s in spring.

Going from 17" RF to 18" conventional tires will be about the same firm ride because of the going from 17" 45 series tire to 18" 40 series tire.Less sidewall height.
I went that route with all season Michelins.
I also went staggered and love it.

Most places say that the tires need a few hundred miles to remove the processing aides/release agents from the surface of the tire to get the max "tire bite". I know this was true for my Falkens.

I bought my old celica with summers and went to all-seasons and saw the same lack of performance at the limits that everyone else sees. Now the bimmer gets dedicated sets.

For what I paid, I think they are very good, especially since I got them in 19's

What PSI are you running - the non-RFT's may feel a bit 'wallowy' if underinflated. I'm running Vredestein Sessantas at 42 Psi on the rear and 39 on the front and they feel pretty good.

All season tires don't perform very well under any conditions. You need to use summer tires when it's warm and snow tires when it's cold. I would have gone with Eagle F1 Asymmetric for summer.
I did just that when 2 of the RFT's had sidewall bubbles. The F1's have been smoother (not unexpected) and quiet. Cannot discern an appreciable difference in handling.

Best option in my personal opinion would be to get the BMW mobility kit from your dealer or a similar kit. that is the option I took. I still have my runflats but didn't feel like getting them mounted back on after.
