petrol additives for injector cleaning.

Trying to help my grandaughter with her high mileage misfiring mini. I wondered if anyone has actually cured a misfire by using an injector cleaning additive such as redex or wynns etc. My thoughts are to start at the cheap end of the cures. Anyone?.

Try getting any fault codes read it may be something as simple as a plug or coil pack

I suspect having fault codes read might be more costly than a bottle of Wynns.

Try BG44K ... I have used it twice in the wife's car and it certainly stopped it running rough the 1st time I used at about 40,000 miles ... it working after about 30 miles ... thus using a second tin a year later !

It is supposed to be far stronger than 'normal' injector cleaners and has more of the expensive additives that clean than the cheaper 'Halfords' types of cleaner.

If you Google reviews on BG44 you won't find anything negative (well I didn't anyway).

I don't think many of the reputable makes on the market are bad - just that this is far stronger but still safe. You pay for the strength though - it is getting on for £20 a tin (which is enough for one tank of petrol in one go).

I would certainly recommend it on the basis of the change in my wife's car !

Hi John,

Is your GD a member off the AA or Rac , Just tell them it won't start and when the guy arrives she says I have got it to start but it runs shit , He will scan it for a young lady .

My son had issues with his 330I petrol bmw . They scanned his and found it was a coil pack

Using injector cleaner when you're not even sure of the cause of the misfire could be a complete waste of time (and money). As well as plugs and coils, it might also be caused by carbon build-up on the backs of the inlet valves, which I understand is a common problem with direct injection Mini engines.

That test is for octane boosters not specifically cleaners.

Think its for the standard red petrol one, not octane.
