E93 owners - problem with Roof Shell Trim Strips

Hi folks

Anyone with verts had any problems with the roof shell trim strips?

These are the plastic strips that cover the two hinges each side of the roof - I have one which is not seating down properly when the roof is closed

I have found a service bulletin on it

http://www.bmwtis.com/tsb/bulletins/...p/B540107g.htm

and booked the car in to have it looked at next thursday so will have more news then.

....as long as it's sunny I don't mind the temperature

The heaters, heated seats and wind deflector sort all the cold breeze out

It is a known problem so keep an eye out and get em changed if they show any signs of deformity whilst it is under warranty. Strange how only one side has gone on mine?

Hope you it sorted out ok Red, make sure they put the seats back in properly when they fit the roof trim, those BMW guys are little tinkers

Only joking they use a special tool called the 'Joint Cleaver Blade' which they use to replace the trim strips on the roof its abbreviated name is the 'JCB'

Thanks. The bulletin suggests that only cars produced before mid Jan 2007 will be affected. Has anyone with a more recent car had problems ? Mine appears to be ok (registered July 07).

Mine was registered in May 07 (march production I think) - the bulletin I found had been issued in Jan, then re-issued in April (they added some extra part numbers highlighted as 'new') - the July issue is the one I found.

Interestingly, they added on the 'new' parts in April - these were a primered part that required spraying but only the left handtrim.

It is my left one that has gone. 'E93' - which one went on yours?

Seems strange if it only affects the left hand side? The dealer did not say if they were replacing one or both?

Same problem with roof shell trim

My new (2007) E93 330i went back to the dealers to have the rear windscreen replaced under warranty and when it came back the roof shell trim strips had deformed in this way. Dealer doesn't seem to be able to find the service bulletin, and says trim strip is not covered under warranty.

Do you have a copy of the service bulletin by any chance? Can you say which garage carried out the work on the trim strip for you?

Thx.

No problems with the hinge covers yet, do look fragile by design though..

Why did you have your rear screen replaced, mine was done last month because of a failing heating element...

Appreciate not original thread subject, but interesting to see someone else with issue with rear screen, had searched on here before work done could not find one other with rear screen problem..

Might be age driven as mine 2008, e93 owners should keep an eye on this as with no warranty assume would of been c.£1,000 to replace....

n.b. Top three/four strips of screen are AM/FM aerial on vert...
