Steering creaking
Has anyone on here experienced a squeaking noise from the steering column area when turning in car parks etc , driving slowly? My dealer can't seem to fix this fault.
My car is an E92 330d msport lci.

Mine does this too, exactly the same car as you (330d LCI E92)...the sound seems to come from the top mounting of the strut where the top mount bearings etc would be so it must be them (I'm saying this based on info I know about other cars so I'm assuming the E92 is the same situation)

I had rubber mounts replaced on the struts as I got an annoying squeaking when going slowly over speed bumps, it sounds like it's coming from the steering column they have already replaced a rubber joint where the steering column goes through the bulkhead into the engine bay but it's still doing it!! Very annoying

Hi.
I also have the same problem, E90 325d lci. I asked for it to be looked at on the last service. It was only noticeable, when parking the car. Bit like a wheezing sound. Since that service, it squeaks all the time now! They have effectively made it worse. Next service due in 1700miles. Still approx 6 months warranty. Hope they get it sorted then.

I used to have the worst noise coming at slow speeds parking etc, sounded like chewbacca was hiding somewhere.
I managed to locate the problem and solve it though so hopefully this works for you too! I removed the plastic covering in the drivers footwell, it's 3 torx screws iirc. When removing the cover, remember to unplug the wiring for the footwell light. Now if you follow the steering column down to behind the brake pedal, you will see a rubber gaitor as it hits the bulkhead. Mines had a load of yellow grease that had dried and what looked like rubber shavings. If you push the gator in as far as you can (awkward while lying on your back) you can see a lot more of the steering shaft. I loaded it with moly grease, like proper packed it in, let the gaitor pop back out and slap some more grease in there. Since then I haven't had any noises from the steering column, takes 15 mins in total. |
