"Block the intersection" ticket

well I got one "obstructing traffic ticket" yesterday around Queensborough bridge.

Anyone has experienced with this? If it is a white "Parking ticket" coming from those NYPD traffic guys with a portable scanner, there's no points right?

This time it is my fault, so I plan to pay up as long as there's no ponts. Last year I got one which is not my fault. It was a yellow "traffic ticket" and it would be 2 pts. I have a ticket place dealing with it and it is still going on through the courts after a year

Thanks in advance.

usually the box will be painted in white checkers and a big sign saying do not block the box +2 points will be on one of the poles.

they changed it from a traffic violation to a non-points offense in late 2008 so that the traffic agents could write the tickets for it instead of only cops. Now it's just an increased fine, but no points.

Good to know and I hope it's correct. I have a NY speeding ticket reduced to "traffic light obstruction" violation late last year (I have an NJ license). I'm waiting for the penalty decision (eg fine, points, etc) from the court.

look at your paperwork from the court for the actualy VTL section that you plead guilty to. Then you can go online and check on the NYS DMV page and see if it's a considered a moving violation (with points). As long as it's got no points, then it won't transfer to NJ.

If it does, have points, any out of state violation (except DUI) transfers to an NJ license as a 2pt out of state violation (regardless of if it was a 8 point reckless ticket in the issuing state, it's a 2pt "out of state violation" on your NJ driving record.)

i dont understand how people get these points when it clearly says do not block the box, yet people go through the light as if they can make it...

unless it was a police officer, its a parking violation and no points.

traffic enforcement AGENTS cannot write moving violations.

as an added bonus, if you contest it online, with some excuse like, light was too short, they will probably immediately offer you a reduced fine, usuallly -20 to -40 off the original fine.

Thank you all. That's what I've been thinking.

White - parking ticket - non-moving - no points
Yellow - moving - 2 points
pink - haven't seen one before - bad bad bad

After some digging, it was a special legislation that grant the folks carrying a Palm with a scanner to issue "blocking" tickets. The key is to let them issue the ticket much faster without checking licenses and slowing down the traffic (?!?). Of course, it is also because they are everywhere. As it is a parking ticket, there's no point. However, the fine is the same $115.

To reply to the unhappy dude up there saying about drivers, I deserve this ticket as I didn't pay attention to the congestion far ahead. I'll pay.

Thank you all.
May the boost be with you.
