1,600.....paid out-of-pocket $70 at the dealership. Still haven't done an out-of-pocket (one low-mile and one at the yearly mark both on BMW) but the SA said they want $160 only 2 years later.

Did the first at 15K like BMW recommends. 22K miles so far and runs perfect, doesn't even burn any oil.

I got my free annual 1 year oil change at around 3000 miles back in July 09.
I only drive the car on nice days and it's garaged during the winter months.

Each manufacture is a bit different on when they suggest the first oil change happens, the owners manual should go over the factory recommendations.

I personally prefer to do oil changes every 5000 miles (or once a year if miles driven are low). Oil analysis tests are a great way to determine good change intervals if you put quite a few miles on in a year.

We do have oil service kits available for those who prefer to DIY:

Does the oil included in this kit meet BMW's "LL-04" spec (for diesels with a DPF) and is the filter suitable for an '09 335d? TIA.

Oil changes or any fluid changes don't matter if you are not going to keep the car. Now, if plan to keep the car past 100k miles, you need change the coolant, power steering, tranmission, rear diff, oil, and filters at about half of what BMW says. So, if it calls for 15k on the oil change it at 7k with a filter change at 3.5k.

Email the tech talk guy from the RoundL. He has a document he will email you back with how often and with what band of fluid.

I would say be kind and take care of the car so the next guy does not have to replace parts. You can replace fluids or parts. Fluids are cheaper.

This might not be the right thread for this, but I just changed my oil for the first time.... Does anyone know if the paper filter has to go on in a certain way? It looks symmetric so I dont think it matters? Also the oil filter came with a green o-ring, which i replaced and the black o-ring around the oil filter cap, but what is the copper washer for that comes with the oil filter?

Copper washer is probably for the oil drain bolt.

Thats what I figured. There wasnt a washer on there to begin with though, so I didnt put it on. Is the paper oil filter symmetric...meaning can I put it on either direction? There wasnt any markings saying otherwise.

The kit posted above is for the gasoline motors, however we do have a 335d kit available that can be found here on the website to meet the D specs:

I just changed my oil today. I went under the car with the washer on the bolt. I must have moved around. I put the bolt on, filled the car up with oil. When I pulled out the used oil container, there was the new copper washer. Only way to resolve it would be to drain the brand new $6.99 per qt oil I put in the car. I think it will be fine without the washer this time. Will keep an eye on the oil levels a little more closer though.
