yes mate that is.
But then people can go and buy another new one? or slightly used at a good price as they desp to sell..? so in the past were actual values higher than predicted so people bought them?

The values were easier to predict - a 2 yr old 320i would always be worth a 'given' amount of money (give or take a little) but nowadays it is a lottery. Most cars are running well behind book (by many thousands) - Big cars like X5's are dropping 2k a month in some guides!

Or otherwise, use the equity towards your next one. A friend of mine has just finished a PCP on a Peugout 307 and wanted to change brand so she managed to sell privately for £5.5k and then pay off Peugout the £4.5k agreed future value leaving her a grand in her pocket. She was lucky that she sold it for a VERY good price privately to a friend who specifically wanted her car and gave her almost forecourt price!! |

but PCP or HP seems to have worked out like a stop loss for a lot of people.
They have lost a bit but don't have to try to shift their car in a falling market, they can just hand it back and let the finance company take the rest of the loss.. |

Downside of this long term, is the dealers and finance companies will be taking big losses and I am pretty sure BMW increased their finance rate this month whereas the Bank of England lowered theirs. |

I've just got back from Audi, looking at the A5 as an alternative. They were quite happy to show me that their system listed a CAP price from £17600 to £19500. Now, they didnt actually give me a quote cos its Sunday, but we'll see what happens when they ring. If they only offered the low figure, then I'm afraid its goodbye BMW, hello A5.
And I actually disagree that its about cost to change, its not to me, its about value. I'll happily pay for something more expensive, if I'm getting a reasonable deal on it.
