335D iDrive on older-is reg.. (56'/07')?
Sorry to resurrect old topics beaten to death guys but a quick question before I decide on a 335D I've spotted... is the iDrive on an older-ish model (56’ / 07’) worth considering or would I be better off to get one without (taking into account resale value when / if I have to part with it in the future?).
I’ve spotted a 335d SE with 44k circa on the clock, i drive, heated seats, xenon, Bluetooth, etc etc etc on a 56’plate for around £15k but I’m pretty sure the guy is “haggleable”. It doesn’t have many of the extras i.e. elec folding mirrors, DVD etc.. so not sure if I’m getting a good deal but worth asking some of you experts here on your thoughts. Budget of no more than £15k which doesn’t allow me to opt for an M Sport kit (works in my favour as I actually prefer the SE standard alloys!), would it be better to opt for one which has the iDrive and slightly higher miles or one without iDrive? What problems have you encountered with the idrive on older models and if I’m upgrading my sounds in the car, are there apparent problems of integration i.e. integrating an Audison Bit one? I’m not totally decided but as its the only decent-ish one Ive seen, I’m of course inclined to it, however, I’ve also seen a space grey colour with the extras the 1st one doesn’t have and a grand cheaper but all the way up in Scotland so a bit gutted but could be a lovely way to experience a drive back! Any thoughts..? Excited to stick with BMW – my e90 has been phenomenal in every aspect from looks to feel to power and so much more – and that’s just the 320d! Adios.. |

Are you buying the e92? I know from looking at idrive info on wikipedia . The e92/93 comes with the ccc idrive range from 06/07-09 for the professional models. Afterwards its a complete new system called the cic system.
Don't bother with the business sat nav as its a joke. Common problems with idrive are problem with the disc drive and the system crashing. Overheat of the system is very rare. I've not heard about that so don't worry but things do go I live in london and driven to leeds to purchase mine and never once regretted it! It was a lovely road trip with a new car!!

Bear in mind the E92 (coupe) 335d comes with sports seats & suspension standard the same as the Msport. It's actually a classier looking car if it has the 230's 19" rims.
Fantastic car, you won't regret getting one.

That's cool and acceptable, but a journey from near Guildford all the way to Aberdeen is a bit much I think. Seeing one this Sunday however a little closer to home which should hopefully be good!

I would say that iDrive definitely isn't a deal breaker. Having owned mine for a year and a half now, knowing what I know, I'd have been just as happy with a TomTom...

I ended up going back to Surrey to complete the purchase as the bank cocked up earlier in the day but the seller actually met me an hour or so outside of there which shaved 2 hours off my train journey - maybe suggest something like that?
In terms of iDrive - It was a deal breaker for me and whilst I have the older version I much much prefer the look of the screen incorporating dash and I actually find it veru useful for all the non satnav features - it's great to flick through my music folders once I have burned them onto a data cd for instance. Plus residuals are much higher - not many people would want to buy a high end BMW only to have to stick a tom tom on the windscreen, not many marque models without it these days. Just my two pence worth. |

It is a deal breaker in terms of interior aesthetics and general car operations, not just the sat nav, which has never let me down either!
Definitely wouldnt want an e92 without it

Thanks for the advice peeps keep em opinions coming in...its an interesting read and a good break to the otherwise busy world of recruitment lol!
Spoke to the guy who said he's negotiable and the car has elec folding mirrors which is a cool extra! This one is 56' plate. The other one I've seen although 07 is about £1300-£1500 cheaper, is around the same mileage as the 56' plate but no Nav. Does paying the extra, say £1300 Ish warranty for I drive then? The one with the I drive even got all the alloys fully refurbed which is a bonus... But it's silver. Some people really dislike that on here but hey, I think it can be made to look pretty cool if done right. You've guessed it, the 07 plate is black ext with black int. |

hi mate, i am after a 335d too, was asking the same questions before in one of my posts.
If i was in your position , i would go for the i drive sat nav, as i got e46 coupe and i am fed up using a tom tom all the time, rather have it there, where i can just type it in, it makes life easier mate. I also agree with what the other lot are saying, about bmw should be having sat navs in there car. I wish min had one, (ended up buying aftermarket one for the car this week , as i have got fed up) lol good luck mate in looking for one |

hi mate, budget is like between 10 - 15 k, but goin to wait till novemmber has i think the new coupe are out then so the price should drop, and by then i will have the money.
funny thing is that i am split between two cars, at the moment either a e46 manaul M3 2005-2006 plate or a 2007-2009 335d coupe hard choice, as i like both of them alot. lol |

I have a colleague at work who is looking into buying a black E46 M3 by Nov too and is keeping an eye in the market - it's crazy the time spent on looking out for the right spec'd car! It’s that or a 330d for him so let’s see! I've been looking out since Jan but only just had funds available recently after selling the 320D. I don’t know whether I should keep waiting for a slightly cheaper 335D, with a better colour combo – whether that even exists! In a pickle right now, I just don’t want to rush into it but for some reason this particular one is calling my name... I just hoped for a LMB or sparkling graphite, not titanium silver.. although if kept well can look v clean. Problem is it’s such a common colour it’s almost putting me off but rest of the car seems right. Do the 2006 335d’s come with auto folding mirrors or just a case by case basis? My question is – does a Titanium silver/black inter 335d 56’ reg SE, xenon, idrive, 44.5k on the clock, refurbed twisted spoke alloys and the basic other spec justify £14.k OR should one wait in the hope of something better? Again, there’s a black 335d with black leather – almost identical spec however without i-drive for over a grand cheaper...Not sure if that’s even worth a look. Are there things I should consider when buying these older cars i.e. any common problems known, common faults / questions to ask the owner – it’s private / private dealer sale so could always do with any extra advice from you folks. Cheers, Sam |
