Throttle Body Swap
OK so the car is a 2006 330i bone stock except charcoal filter delete. Forget an aftermarket exhaust system. I am not going to spend the money for a PE I if anything will delete the secondary cats. When the time comes for software I will be dyno tuned by Eurocharged in Houston, TX.
So here is my question. What size is the stock throttle body on the 330i, what is the size difference between that and a TB off of a 540i or any other 4.4l that uses the same TB. I read a thread where the 540i TB was used on an e46 M3 and I am curious to know if the same TB will fit on the 330i Intake Manifold with no/minor modification to the manifold. If it is a fairly simple bolt up/minor mod required TB option then I will give it a shot and share the dyno results once I get to that point. |

Complete waste of time and money. Most of the functions normally performed by the TB are actually done through Valve timing events instead, so the TB usually stays fully open. And even if you did manage to get something to work, from my experience their is little to no gain.
So where is the real power at? Headwork, Tuning and the camshafts. Find someone who can make us a cam with 10.5-11mm of lift and then we'll be in business. |

That is what I was afraid of. Like normal the gain is minimal. Cams I think are a long shot. How would that work with the Vanos providing the optimal lift already. My hopes were to find a much larger TB and slightly larger injectors along with a tune to get close to 300 hp.
The other option is to find a bore and storke combination, more displacement and slighty higher compression to reach or break 300 hp with N/A and keep the reliability. I think we should be able to reach 300hp N/A with these engines. Nissan does in the 350z and they are slightly larger displacement. All in all I thnk we are dreaming, It either cant be done or will cost so much you should just buy a 335 or m3. |

Well, the problem with the camshaft is actually finding some who will make them. The intake camshaft is variable and allows for a maximum of 9.9mm of lift, and the exhaust lift is set at 9.7 - both of which are higher than previous M series motors.
And then there is the tuning side, as you'd need a custom dyno tuned map for sure. |

Ya so this is my DD and I won't spend 1k on 5hp. I can gain more by secondary cat delete and get the same sound by opening the stock muffler and removing the packing inside.
This car will get modified stock air box, cat delete(maybe) and a dyno tune...thats it for this guy. Everything else is to expensive. Its a 330i so it has the IM already. Stock 255hp. If I were to pursue the 300hp mark by cams, engine build, FI, or anything to that expense I would also need over 1k in an LSD and suspension work to be able to enjoy it. This is the best 255 hp I have ever driven (former 08 R32 owner) the vw was no comparison to the bimmer, this thing pulls so well for what it is. So eventually I will buy and M car or build an LSx swap. |

Yeah it's just not worth it with these n/a engines, if you want more power you buy a 335 or m3, simple as that.

In addition to LSD and wheels, SS headers are the best performance mod and a tune. |
