ER piping with helix FMIC

I got a ER about 2 weeks ago and actually am going to get a helix, reason is this (I like the size of the helix and quality of the face, and a lot more pleasing on the eyes). I am NOT saying my ER does not perform it does....my buddy has helix and we removed the bumper and his just looks better and mine is easily seen. With the said, is anyone using the ER lower intercooler piping with a Helix FMIC? The ER piping is pretty close to stock location so I imagine it would fit pretty good.

For those of you who own a ER FMIC I am not downing your product..li just prefer the larger face of the Helix, I know it also performs because my buddy has one in his 335i. I also know my ER performs...so it's a win/win...big size and great performance and SOMEONE will get a GREAT deal on a 2 week old ER FMIC lol!!

What's the benefit? the OE one doesn't seem too bad.

The bend coming out of the intercooler is pretty restrictive....I would thnk you would gain a bit of throttle response. Also looks pretty awesome lol! Alo the plastic you can't tighten the clamps as much because it can flex and crack. While I have you here, are you using the shorter ER pipe and the stock OEM lower pipe?

Yes it't just one bend (on the throttle body side). I hear what you are saying about the OE one, but the boost would only "open" it up wider wouldn't it?

I am looking at both of these setups...why are you switching to the Helix exactly. Is it just the looks or can you actually tell that Helix is better for performance?

I have not tested the helix on my personal car, my buddy has the same exact car with same mods and the helix does perform....so does the ER...I have logs posted on this thread below. Basically it is about looks...I like the larger face you can see thru the lower grill.

Have you tried using the ER lower piping with th Helix? Also, how come the ER is better than the one Helix provides?

This is quite troubling news, as I like the steped-core, large face design of the Helix, but also like the ER for its shroud and cold piping. What to do?

By the way, does adding meth affect what FMIC chracteristics I should be looking for? Such as flow/pressure over IAT, etc.

Meth won't increase any FMIC's efficiency, look at it more as an additive that specifically increase octane rating (thus creating more HP) and has a substantial cooling effect (separate from the cold air "trapped" by an FMIC or ANY intake)

Hey,
The Helix silicone couplers can be purchased as well as the J pipe that connects the Intercooler to the upper charge pipe. I do not recall if the ER upper charge pipe fits with the Helix lower charge pipe but we can figure it out. Call the shop to check up on the J pipe. Good call going with the Helix IC. You will be much happier!

The very second I get confirmation that the ER pipe fits with your FMIC there will be a ER FMIC for sale. The front face of the helix is just a lot better quality....my buddy has the helix and it is a big difference in weld quality.

Wait, J-pipe? You guys make a aftermarket lower IC pipe? Could you possibly make this non plastic? The only other issue I can see is the ER makes a "short" CP and a "long" CP but a custom coupler would help this, can a longer than normal hump coupler be purchased?

Hey people,

Just to clear this up for anyone still unsure (as I was when it came to ordering and this is the first search result);

I have a late 2007 335i E90 and just fitted a new Helix FMIC and ER charge pipe.

I got the 09+ ER charge pipe (long version) AND got the 09+ Helix FMIC WITH the hard J-Pipe.

You'll see the extra J-Pipe below (available upon request from Helix).

Everything fit perfect and the entire 'cool' side of the FMIC piping is replaced going by this method.

The throttle response is amazing! And am guessing it's due to the whole cool side piping now being solid rather than plastic / rubber.

Hope this helps someone.
