E90 rattles: what are yours?
I've got (on a 3 year old car)
- a rattle from the rear passengers air control-ashtray area - something behind the dash infront that sounds like 'sugar in can' that appeared after the car had windshield replaced after a ding. - a small rattle near front passenger seat belt area on the B pillar Have you encountered those (especially the rear passenger ashtray thing)? And was it fixed?

same thing here. mine is 2 months old, 1300 miles, from the very first miles, a rattle from the back ashtray / AC vents. the most annoying noise I found came from the door's plastics on the right side; there is a small lamp at the very bottom of the door, the entire Plastic/vinyl apparatus seem to be somewhat loos and not tightly attached to the metal part. I had to shove a piece of plastic in between to make the noise stop.
Outrageous findings for a ~ 50k car. Compared to my previous Infiniti G35x- the quality of built/finish of the Bimmer is definitely inferior !! BP |

Mine was a "tinny" rattle that seemed to be coming from somewhere underneath the front of the car everytime I began moving from a standing stop (or moving through 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears). Turned out to be the tensioner (belt). It's being replaced under warranty - problem (hopefully!) solved!

- Rattle in steering column
- Metallic rattle on passenger side of dash (inside somewhere) - Light tinny rattles from both b-pillars - Rattle from rear parcel shelf area - Seems there was one from the moonroof area as well (like very car I've owned that was equipped with one), but I haven't heard from it in a while. All are intermittent and thrive on slightly different conditions ensuring it would take plenty of trips to the dealer to exorcise them all. I see a repair manual and a lost weekend or two in my future. |

i feel you pain, my Audi TT had those and I just turned up the radio - out of sight, out of mind my current 330 has been perfect - no rattles, except for the engine lifters noise problems.

More than I care to count.
I've resorted to just turning up the radio.

I had a rattle that was coming from below the instrument panel which was fixed by the dealer. The only other noise I get occasionally is one from the center of the dash, which seems to be located around the center speaker. It's hard to exactly pinpoint though. Otherwise, everything else is good.

Welcome to the wonderful world of BMW rattles. I have yet to own a BMW that doesn't have one. Model doesn't matter.....bottom line is you're going to have to deal with it.
For all you lucky bastards with no rattles....don't worry. They will come. |

Rattle free 06 330i with 36K miles. But I have a rock chip on my windshield. I'm afraid if it grows, I'll have to replace the windshield, opening the possibility of a rattle like yours.

07' and no rattles. We have an 03' Merc e320 with 100+k and not a single rattle. There were some other fucked things that the dealer didnt want to cover under warranty though.
