Wow, never have guessed!

Seriously I cannot understand the complete over-reaction to the sending off. Most fair minded people can see that the incident could have led to a red card - certainly others have been sent off in the past for far less.

I'm left feeling that if it been a Real Madrid player sent off, the British reporters and commentators would have been calling it the 'correct' decision from the referee.

He put his studs right into the guy.

It would be a red many times in the premier league and red nearly every time in Europe.

Man Utd have played enough in Europe to know that.

Yes he was going for the ball, no argument.

That covers 90% of bad challenges. The player makes an effort to get the ball but mistimes or misjudges getting the ball and gets the guy instead.

It wasn't meant but as soon as he did get the guy, so high with his studs fully extended, it did become reckless.

If you are going to attempt to get the ball like that you need to make sure it is safe.

Since he got the guy, clearly it wasn't safe.

The way people are going on about it makes it sound like the softest red card ever.

If that happened against Man Utd you'd want the player sent off.

I live up in Aberdeen now and there is far more Man Utd supporters than Aberdeen supporters.

They all use the Fergie link as justification to support Man U when 1) there are too young to remember him at Aberdeen 2) don't actually support Aberdeen FC which they use as the connecting link.

Quite a few guys I work with are season ticket holders and travel up and down for the games.

Pretty awful if you ask me.

If you watch a replay you will notice Nani was never aware that an opponent was coming up behind him. Nani did not kick the opponent, the opponent ran onto his boot and then performed the mandatory 6 body rolls.

The other player was going for the ball too.

What should he do?

Watch Nani to see if he has his boot up and if he does stand back and allow him to take the ball unchallenged?

Amazed you can blame the other player for it.

I totally agree with John on this one, and I have no particular affection for Man Utd by the way. You cannot argue that Nani's boot was "endangering an opponent" since Nani was purely looking at the ball. In short, it was an accident.
Do we now say that a goalkeeper who goes to punch the ball and flattens the opposition forward in the process should be shown a red card?
Or that Van Persie should have been sent off when doing an overhead kick? Didn't see the Turkish ref too bothered about that one last night. Oh yes, and said ref missed a clear penalty to United late it the game. But then I suspect that the ref has never played professional football, and it showed!
As for Roy Keane, your jealousy of Fergie is so obvious Keane, it's pathetic. Just 'cos you couldn't cut it as a manager.

By the way Mega, keep the banter going, I love it!

Mike (my only bias is towards Pompey......till I die).

Lets just give goalkeepers who punch players in the head going for the ball red cards then??? And ban overhead kicks. I fully agree with Mike on this point

Anyways fuck that i'm actually happy and proud of our team. Even after going 1 man down we had 4-5 clear cut chances; their goalkeeper had an amazing game. We also kept Ronaldo quiet over two games compared to his usual self.

That's the thing with Man Utd. No matter how many haters and knockbacks there are, we will always bounce back and play to the last whistle. Glory to Man Utd.

In my haste I left my laptop open and my colleagues, who always take the pi*s, took it upon themselves to look at what I was doing.

I was on this post so they decided to run riot posing as me.

Anyway now is my chance before I log out.

I would sincerely like to apologise to anyone who took offense at the posts made by mwp4me. I truly am sorry.

I would have thought that A_P would have been sympathetic to the circumstances mentioned above since, apparently, it happened to him as well (when he had a different user name.)

Disgusted at the ref.

I would love to have seen what had happened if that never happened.

Diego Lopez saved them too.

Atleast we're going to win the premiership.

YOU AGAIN.

You've registered MULTIPLE ACCOUNTS and it was never an isolated incident. Don't try and do the "oh it wasn't me" thing. Or are you saying you are serially stupid, ??
