Tesla P90 vs 2011 335d Stage 1 BPC tune
Not sure if anyone has run across one of these on the highway, but I did last night and was very shocked at the outcome.
The Tesla did a fly by while I was going 65, so I punched it and passed him within 7-9 seconds on an open stretch of road after midnight in Mexico. The kid driving the Tesla and his friends were shocked and waved... If a stage 1 is this fast on the freeway because of the torque, I can't wait to see the stage 3 with hybrid turbos and 450whp and 670lbft of torque.... |

Telsa's big advantage is from a standstill - big (instant) Torque and AWD = amazing launch. However they trap at like 112, so they aren't that quick from a roll.

Guys, calm down lol. The P90 is not the Dual motor. The dual motor is AWD (P90D) , the P90 is RWD.
Also, the RWD variants are slower AND add that to the fact most Tesla's dont have "ludicrous" mode, they arnt all THAT fast. Sorry to burst your bubble. If you guys ran up against a P90D or P100D with ludacris mode, you would get walked. Here is a a M4 (rated 425hp, but actually closer to 450hp stock) vs a P90D. BMW Gets the jump. Keep in mind, from a dig, this would be a slaughter. Last edited by natedog7700; 11-22-2016 at 01:21 PM.. |

EV loses its initial torque advantage once the car starts moving, especially direct drive EVs that don't have a gearbox. Electric motors actually generate less torque/hp as its rpm increases. Their biggest advantage is from a standstill, especially with the dual motor AWD models where our cars struggle with traction and turbo lag.
So there really isn't much to brag about winning highway "drag race" with a car that weight more than 2 tons (4800-4900lbs vs 3600lbs)...

This wasn't meant to be bragging but more of an appreciation for a stage 1 diesel 335. My car only makes roughly 300whp and 460lbft of torque...The torque is what really helps...I can't wait to see my car at stage 3 420+whp and 600lbft of torque, that is going to be a fun daily driver at 30+mpg

As a Tesla employee I can say that Ludicrous mode makes a large difference at highway speeds (having driven many with and without). So a P90D vs a P90DL is a more considerable difference than appears on the surface. Nonetheless, electric cars have a lot more of an edge under 60mph as opposed to over. If a Tesla were to have a 2nd gear it's trap speeds would be much more impressive.
Regardless, a P100DL+ runs the quarter mile in 10.72 @ 120mph (current best, I am sure we will see quicker) which is pretty impressive for an otherwise understated daily commuter.

Just curious...How many 1/4 mile runs can be made on a single charge. And does the car reduce power as the battery level drops or do you get the full beans each time until it dies?

So I was on a highway in Mexico tonight and I came across a DB9 that wanted to play from an 80 roll. Well things didn't turn out so well for me by 130, he had 2 and 1/2 cars on me. He also had a sticker that said Live 4 Now!
This is leading me to believe it is time to go stage 3 on the diesel with meth injection and get 450whp and 600lbft of torque.... Funny how you step up in power and the next level becomes mundane, then all of the sudden you want more. Any thoughts??? |
