stupid email notifications! i didnt think there was this much activity on my thread lol
anyway - I am now at square one with what I want...my first priority is aesthetics but that is also because I don't know any better...my buddy has a e92 335i dropped with some eibach pro kits and stock shocks - the look is great and doesn't feel to "harsh" I am coming from driving a 4runner and a MDX so even the "crappy" sport suspension on the 335xi i have feels okay...but when I take a round-about on ramp in third and push it pretty good - i DEF feel the roll and floaty feeling you guys all talk about. Personally - I like the aggressive downward facing (dog?) stance...this is why I wanted CO's in the first place so I can play with functionality over aesthetics...but after reading some more material (esp Doyle's end all thread) I realized there is a LOT more to think about and consider than just "dropping" it. I don't want the "slammed" look as I am a working professional and govvies already look at me when i drive my car in this lot (either 20 year old busted cars - or nicer "northern va" cars).... btw - i hate having a car that is a dime a dozen in my area - but i guess for the price point to fun factor is why I chose the n54 335. good entry level "sports" car.... anyway keep the options/opinions coming! |

Given that's an xi, quite a considerable difference to mine. How is the handling? also plenty of travel in the front?

I've been told so long as you have around 30-35mm you can trim them down to that. I'd guess you can probably trim them a little more than that depending on original size and if you re-use the stock ones or not. My coilovers came with replacements front and rear.

I'm very happy with the handling! But I can only compare it to all the previous cars I've owned, most of which had aftermarket suspensions also, and this car is by far the best one yet! It does ride a little on the stiff side, but what coil over car doesn't? And I'm sure my low profile 19's attribute to some of that as well, but even though it rides a little stiff, it doesn't jar you or get annoying at all. And it actually handles the bumpy conditions great, its hard to explain, but it feels like it was meant for it and the car still feels planted on the bumpiest of roads. As for the travel, there seems to be plenty left and I don't recall ever hitting the bump stops yet, but I do tend to watch out for big issues on the roads... And overall, this is my DD and I'm very happy with it!

I am very happy with my KW V1s. I don't feel as much body roll in the turns and the ride isn't rigid at all, but I did go from OEM 18" with RFTs to 19" with Falken 452s. Here is a before and after:

They're OEM's, think they're one of the best looking OEM wheels out there.

so over the weekend Doyle was gracious enough to let me ride in his 335xi with TCK Coilovers installed and I must say the ride was A LOT more comfortable than I expected. NOVA roads are not the best especially following the winter and you def felt the potholes but the TCK's recovered fast (not sure what aspect contributes to this factor - dampening / spring rate maybe?). I would def use those on a DD and it was surprising. On the on ramps it felt great - unlike my stock sport suspension which rolls worse than my old MDX.
I am not sure if I would be willing to pony up $2k for some TCK's but I was def impressed with the ride quality for track-ready suspension. I am FOR SURE getting coil overs now and going to customize it to my liking. I think that is the key. If you are looking to just lower the ride - and set it and forget it - spring shock combo is for you - but for a few more hundred dollars to get the coils is worthwhile IMHO... I am still on the hunt for the right application for me - will update with my decision - but more opinions are welcome please!

I talked to Harold, he said the max drop on koni+swift front is 1.25" including trimming bump stop because the strut has very limited compression travel. Other than the drop, koni+swift really is the best deal out there
Doyle how much drop did you have on the front? I believe TCK also uses koni front xi strut? |
