Hey guys, when I bought my car, it came with part worn RE050s up front and nearly new Hankook V12 Evos on the back...

Do you reckon this is the best way round for grip or should I switch them?

No experience with RE050s but the Hankook V12 EVO is great, very grippy tyre and I'd be happy with a full set.

They are different sizes so that's not really an option.

Well thats a slight concern, all four of my tyres are 255/35/R18?

fronts should be 225/40/18

rears should be 255/35/18

The plot thickens, I have uncovered a fubar.

When the guy I bought the car off last replaced his tyres, for some screwed up reason he ended up putting 255 non-runflats on the front, despite as you say it should have been 225 runflats.

So what I actually have is 255s all round, the front ones being non-runflats???

Now then, since I was going to go non-runflat anyway, I might as well buy some Hankook V12 225s for the front and have matching tyres all round - what do you think?

That sounds like a sensible plan. Then sell off the part worn runflats on eBay (yikes)

Wheel width sizes are 8.5" at the rear and 8" at the front. (for M Sport)

Not supposed to put 255 on an 8" rim.

Does it feel a bit wobbly going round corners?

Unless they are rep alloys or he has brought a pair of 255alloys to replace the fronts due to curbing etc I wouldn't think you could get a 225 rim to fit a 255 tyre

OP - yup go for 225/40/18 EVO12 up front - the correct size

No such thing as a '225 rim'. An 8J (8") rim will take anything from about 195 to 265 at a push.

The rear rim is only 1/2inch wider than the front, so there's quite an overlap of sizes that would fit on both.

It'll go on just look a bit 'fat' and handle very oddly - best to stick to correct sizes (on you door plate!!!!)

More concern is mixing runflats with non runflats. This is a) dangerous due wildly varying handling characteristics b) strictly not allowed by tyre manufacturers and c) could quite probably void your insurance if you had a crash as you're going against tyre safety guidelines.

Can't believe the previous owner allowing this to happen, and I can't believe I didn't notice!

Ordered some V12s in 225/40 and my Slime Smart Spare just arrived so all will be well very soon

Idiots.
