Still going with 165k on mine. I haven't personally seen a dead one on a 328i or 335i but I replaced five or six on e90 325i's this past summer.

These reports make me think they expire due to age, regardless of mileage.

My waterpump housing cracked at 80,000 or so miles and leaked slowly so I had to change it. The electronics were still working but the system wouldn't hold pressure.

Just got my water pump replaced! Lol I'm the only one so far that voted greater than 120K+ miles. Sounds like my car is tough.

I do all the work on my car myself. Parts online cost 525 shipped. Took me about 3 hours.

I had mine replaced at 134K as a preventative measure along with a new thermostat, expansion tank, new cap, coolant, coolant sensor, upper and lower radiator hoses. Bought all parts and had my mechanic installed everything. Parts & labor came out to $1250.

The old waterpump was still working and I eventually sold it to someone else.

You should just change it out now lol and save yourself the towing bill. It happen to me while I was driving home from work with my wife and child at night on the freeway while it was windy and rainy.. Worse experience ever..

Changing a pump isn't preventive maintenance.. It is over kill let your water pump fail and just get a tow. Sure it might be an inconvenience but for all you know you might have 20k more miles on that pump.

Being in sales... There is one comment I hate but is completely true.

If it ain't broke. Don't fix it!

I don't agree with you guys.

I think It's safer to replace it before being stuck during a vacation and having to pay the full price at the dealer of nowhere.

My dilemma is about the thermostat. As it's not a critical part and it doesn't fail a lot alone, I think about keeping the original one when I will replace the pump.

I DO consider replacing any still working part, preventive maintenance. My pump could have 1 or 30k more miles on it.
