Been In For First Service And Bmw May Have Fucked 335d

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ANGRY

incompetant tossers:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

2.5 hours, 400 quid bill for 7 litres of oil...

get home and let sit for 5 mins check oil and WHAM..... FEELS LIKE A HIT below the belt

the oil is below the minimum
SO angry and SO POINTLESS having the service done

what IRREVERSIBLE damage could have been done to the turbos and engine??

ring them and they suggest i fill with a litre of oil and send them the bill

THE BILL I SAY

i am so annoyed, i am worried down the line the turbos or the engine may have suffered premature wear and suffered wea and tear which will shorten the life of mentioned components

NEWS JUST IN!

THEY just rung... they sending a technician out 9prob the dumb c*** who didnt put enough in) to fill up some more

OK WOW, i could have done that

so still got driven 15 miles up some steep gradients with oil below the minimum

I AM FUMING:mad:

WELL DONE bmw on another cock up

did your oil warning not come on? I would've thought it would when you get too low.

didnt see anything, but was too busy overtaking to looking at the fookin dash, and end of the day it would only be under hard braking when the oil is low enough for the light to come on!! and usually during those times, your usually looking where you are going

Carlos I'm sure it'll be fine. I would let rip at the dealership though for letting car go out like that. Did you wait for 10 mins or whatever after letting it rest before checking it?

Sorry to hear that. Very poor service. However IMO if the oil was dangerously low, the warning light would have come on. And you would have heard the warning come on - it will beep at you and won't stop until you do something. Remember, the warnings are normally set to come on at a point before any harm could be done (to cater for people like my wife who drives a 'maintenance free' Audi). So hopefully all will be fine. However, I'd get something in writing from them about it and what they did after you spotted the problem, so you've got comeback in future if it goes pear shaped.

My advice - change the dealer you use for servicing, and be quite specific with the Service Manager at the new one why you are doing so and say that you hope they can do better if they want your business. Worked for me as they're keen to prove they are better than their competitors. Also info BMW UK on correspondence if there is any.

Carlos, totaqlly agree that they should have filled the car properly.

But.... you would have got a low level message had it been too low. Therefore you were probably right at the minimum allowable level as they'll have a bit of slack in the dipstick level.

yes mate 5 mins then 10 mins then 15 mins

would feel a little better if there was an actual fookin oil pressure light that was started came on and off a second later when presssure came, but there isnt even that so how the fook could you tell if the pressure did drop for a second under braking down a hill etc

i did engineering at college and know about engine and am very passiobate about engines, i know the importance of oil and its levels and what damage can occur, im annoyed, its a performance engine which now may have been damaged and put at a disadvantage of performance long term and reliability

its the PRINCIPLE of the thing, i check the fooker regulary every other day i trust my BLOODY DEALER and they could have caused untold damage to a 45k car

Not sure if you remember but my oil does fluctuate quite randomly so i am thinkin the disptick could be fooked, i know it sounds silly but it could be faulty somehow

If they actually did put 7 litres in (or the specified amount for a 335D) I can't see it being low oil level. When I used to service cars we added a set amount per engine type, not little by little using your dipstick It doesn't just evaporate.

If they come out to check and your dipstick shows normal level ....

Well ... think it through logically.

If your dipstick level varies both up and down it cannot be the actual gross oil amount fluctuating. Certainly the oil can drop very slowly if you are burning it, or it is leaking. But I have yet to find a car where the oil level increases (blown gasket and oil/water mix excepted)

Not being cheeky here, but more likely a reading error than actual dangerous oil level.

Are you parking on the level ?

Carl, £400 for an oil service??? That is ridiculously expensive, did they do anything else to the car? I paid £140 for an oil change service in my E60 (two years ago).

You are correctly inserting the dipstick - the same amount each time ? It is not catching on anything and not seating correctly ?

Dave its going in correctly each time and 10 times i have checked the same reading has resulted

technician has arrived, is disgusted himself it left the workshop with such little oil and has stuck 1.5 litres in

left me with a new 1 litre bottle and the half a little out of the other bottle and a il check kit.... dosent make up for the irreversible crank/shell turbo damage that COULD have resulted..

who do i speak to about getting the engine and turbo's now warranteed much longer now??

so annoyed. DO you think the oil could ave missed the pick up at all? i did drive fast up this very steep hill on the way home

i just want to cry

Carlos, shurrup with the damage thing - if there was going to be damage your warning lights and sounds would've come on - I'm pretty sure of that. Contact BMW UK to complain and ask them about possible damage if you like? I'm pretty sure your car is fine.....

Stop worrying.

That means that there was at least 5.5 litres of oil minimum rattling around (assuming it needs 7 litres).

Your sump is no doubt baffled, and can cope with rapid cornering and acceleration ... (think track days)

If you started to get constant oil starvation you would start to hear top end rattle and other interesting noises. And your oil pressure light would go off.

You would have noticed that.

but dave there isnt no oil pressure light, no oil dash light that illuminates when ignition is turned on

so how would you know if there was no light

why would BMW fit a baffled sump to a 335d? i understand ''M'' models but a 335d?

i will not have constant oil starvation, but it could have had some oil starvation on the 15 mile journey home???? dont you think ???

and that could shorten the life of the turbo's and engine tenfold

even if it never runs low again, it still was low that once and tha damage is done

If that had happened I think your light and warning beepers would have come on and you would've known about it? Beemers are built expecting people to forget to check their oil occasionally hence the warning. It is warrantied anyway so why worry? It drives ok? Chill carlossio.

Almost ALL cars I have worked on in the last 10 years have alloy, baffled sumps. Even older models with tin sumps have ribbed compartments. You should know this. I am not talking about dry-sumping.

The lateral cornering and acceleration forces on a 335D will be very similar to an M. Having an open sump is just not on.

There is a warning light that would illuminate (engine symbol) and no doubt give you a warning message in the central display area. Have you not read that manual yet ?

Having no oil pressure is a BIGGY. BMW know that The car would let you know.

There was no damage done. Only to our ears !

Let it drop. Sleep easily.

D.
