2011 335i X-drive Problems?

I bought a new 2011 335i X-drive in June and the "Service engine soon" light has come on 4 times, at 300 miles, 600 miles, 900 miles, and 1200 miles. The fault is a tank valve of some sort. The dealership has tried to fix it again and again with no luck. The car is now a Lemon. The rental I have is also a 2011 335i X-drive, and now it's service engine soon light is on too! What the heck? Anyone else out there experiencing these problems? I wanted to get a new 335 but it seems like they have some major problems. What problems have you had or been having with your 2011? Thanks!!!

Silly question, but are you properly tightening the gas cap?

Wow that's some bad luck, I just hit 300 miles with mine haven't encountered any of those problems...very weird that it has happened too both your car and the loaner though.

Not a silly question at all, yes the gas cap has been checked and that's not the problem. It's a Tank Safety Valve malfunction error code. The valve has been replaced 3 times with no fix.

Bad luck is right! Almost too bad, that's why I'm wondering what other problems people are having out there. I know I'm not the only one just talking to people locally.

Check this thread out.......

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=324267

It has the parts that they actually changed in mine to make the CEL stop coming on. As far as I am concerned, if the CEL comes on and they don't change a part, no matter how small or stupid, it's coming back on.

Good luck

Thanks! That was helpful and interesting to read. They did replace the part on 3 separate occasions and with 3 different parts (apparently). First they replaced the valve with a 2010 one, then one from another 2011 on their lot, then ordered one from Germany and tried that. The SES light just kept coming back on. They also did 2-3 "reprogrammings" but that never did anything either.

We're getting to the stage where I am about to get another vehicle or get a refund (due to my state's Lemon law) and I just don't have the warm fuzzy feeling about the 2011 335i xdrive that I did before, especially considering the SES light in my loaner came on too! Very strange.

I wish it could have helped you more, cdruse. I can't imagine how frustrating it must be for you.

I hope it all works out and you end up with a car you trust and enjoy!

Cdruse- What was the end result? Has the problem been resolved or did you ditch the car?

I have a 2011 335 x-drive coupe and I began have the SES light problem a couple weeks ago. I've brought it in once and they replaced a "fuel tank valve." The light then came on a few days later. Now I am supposed to be waiting for a new hose that is coming from Germany. The car drives fine but the SES light is on.

Problem Fixed...

... with a new car, sorry for the delayed reply. The problem wasn't able to be fixed and my state's lemon laws state they have 3 attempts to fix it and/or 30 days, and they exceeded both. So, I was able to get it switched out for another and I have had no problems with the new one, I love it.

Glad to hear you got everything sorted out. Right now my car is back at the dealership for the 3rd time. I was told the SES light is indicating a leak but they can't find it anywhere so they think it is faulty electronics. They are replacing all the electronics that could be involved in hopes of solving the problem. I've got a loaner until the end of the month.

When your SES light came on, did you notice a problem while driving, like loss of power or anything? I ask because I can't tell there is a problem with the car besides the light being on.

Did the dealership offer to give you a new car or did you have to request it? Did they give you a 2011 or 2012?

Glad you got your issue resolved and are happy with your new ride. I have 11k miles on my 2012 and already have another $4,800 invested into it. Of course that's for fun options like wheels, tires, struts/coils

I had the same issue with my 2011 335xi coupe. Turns out it was just a software fault. They performed recall 122210 to update my car's DME software. Problem solved! I would mention this to your dealership to see if the same situation may apply to you...

well I just noticed you got a new car, but I figure I can leave this up for anyone else that runs into the DME version issue
