^ Yup. It's not like these guys make a lot of money. They more than likely get an hourly wage that is nothing to brag about. My way of looking at it is if you can afford a few bucks why not make someones day a little better that did a good job for you!

Exactly. Makes my day go by that much easier when I get a tip.

tipping has just been blown out of proportion. so much crap you should not have to tip for that people expect tips for. they even say, no tips required because its included in your cost. BUT what they don't say is, if you don't tip, you'll get shit service.

Err actually you're right. I meant to switch that around. Delivery $0, Install $10.

Wow, there are a lot of people driving 40K+ cars who would begrudge someone doing actual work $10.

if I get horrid service, I don't tip
I tip based on how much I like the guy/girl
if they are friendly, talkative... if they aren't and just expect a tip.. they get balls
if they just do the bare minimum then I tip my 10% bare minimum

as for delivery guys.. it really depends how long of a job it is

I mean if they spend half the day at my place.. then yes... and lunch I always offer if it is during lunch time
drinks always regardless of time.. the second they get there...

don't tip...........it's in their job description.

sometimes --- they'll get fired if their supervisor finds out.

p.s. everything is overpriced to begin with.....

Tip both, deliver and install, if you can afford it.

Tipping up front, before the work, sometimes makes people do a better job, but not usually in my experience.

If you decide to tip after, base it on how much time it took and how hard they worked.

Delivery prob ~$5-10/person, install $10-20/person.

I ended up giving them $10 each and a couple bottles of water. They were late but that wasnt their fault, they had been to 9 previous installs already. They even went above and beyond and tried to unhook things for the person who would be coming today to install things. Regardless, they were happy.

Now I gotta wait for the installer today.

Learn to install the washer and dryer yourself.

Microwave - just plug it in, comes with a kit?

Make sure you have the manuals for the microwave and W/D before they leave. Also, the microwave prob comes with an installation kit - grab the instructions for that too.

Watch closely how they install everything. It will save you $$$ over the next 50 years if you learn to do it yourself now. Ask the installers lots of questions.

If you own your house, buy new hoses for the clothes washer that have an 'auto-shut off' feature; if the pressure drops in the hose (e.g., leak or busts open), the valve shuts off the water, preventing major damage to your house. Also, make sure the water supply hoses are jacketed (with a metal sleeve around them), to help prevent bubbles forming in the walls of the rubber hoses.
