Possible Dual Alternator Kit
Hi I've been searching for somebody to make a high output alternator for the e90 now I did find somebody that could build up the stock one to 250 but thats not recommended for a couple of reasons, and also I'd rather not mess with the stock electrical system. So I found someone near daytona beach Florida that could make a dual alternator kit the way it would work is the stock alternator would charge the stock battery and that will power all the factory electricals. The new alternator would charge a second battery which could power your amps, power inverters or whatever else you want. So I am hoping to start a group buy for these we could get them for $300 a kit shipped if 5 people buy. This kit could also be used to replace the factory alternator with any alternator from excess amperage which uses their standard case.

Hi I just got an email and the guy said it is possible to add a second alternator it would be $400 for the bracket, pulley, and shipping in the U.S so I was thinking we could get a group buy together. So if you want one let me know, this is the only dual alternator kit available and there are no high output alternators out there.

Are you sure just a single high output alternator would not work? Contact Dom Iraggi, as I'm sure he has one for our application, pending if it would not screw with the stock electricals.
I think his email is dominick@tds.net I swapped out the stock one in my ranger, which was only like 140 amps at most, with a 260+ Iraggi Alt and was able to push a lot of power with it |

Well I already found somebody that could increase the output to 250 amps but that still isn't enough for what I have in mind. And I have no idea if it will cause problems with the stock electrical system.

Well I am going to remove the rear seat back and replace it with an 18 inch fi btl in a 4 cubic foot box powered by two PDX m12's, for mids and highs I am going to have 2 PDX f4's, and a PDX f4 for the midbass drivers I am going to put under the seats

Are you competing or daily use? If you haven't already purchased the 18" BTL I'd check into a 15" ported rather than an 18 sealed. Might also want to toss more than 2400 RMS at a BTL if you really want to get it moving.. Just my $.02. Either way, I'm done trolling your thread and good luck with the install Free bump |

I was never planning to put a btl in a sealed box it would probably destroy that box. But I might end up getting a 15 inch anyways because it will fit a little better. And I am gonna put more than 2400 watts to it my m12's birthsheet says 1345 watts and am sure the new one I am getting will be pretty close to that.

One factor to consider when buying a Hi Output Alternator, is exactly WHEN it makes the higher ouput amps.
This is one of those cases when bigger is not necessarily better Most alternators don't have any trouble keeping up when car is at highway speeds/higher RPM's. When you really need the higher output is at idle rpm thru about 2000 rpm - you know, when idling at stop or red lights, in-town driving, slow cruising. That is when you will see a high power stereo system suck the life out of your car & all the lights go dim... Any reputable alternator mfg. should be able to build an alternator that exhibits hi output at the idle-2000 rpm range & be able to prove their ratings. I have quite a bit of experience with this on my T/A after adding in a killer stereo system, higher output lighting, cooling fans for transmission/oil coolers, reduction crank pulley, etc. There were a lot of 'hi output' alternators out there, but only a few that rated their output at the low rpm ranges. I ended up with an alternator built on the relatively small GM CS130 case that outputs 210 amps thru 2200 rpm. Couple that with the largest Optima Spiral Cell battery that would fit, upgraded size of battery positive & ground wires (very important), and the proper size caps for the stereo amps - I have never had a problem. And this is a car that does a lot of in town driving & slow crusing at car shows. Another less expensive option that can help to a point is to add a different size alternator pulley to 'overdrive' the alternator at lower engine rpm's. Different size aftermarket pulleys are quite ez to find for GM & Ford applications, don't know about BMW... So make sure any hi output alternators you choose raise the output at low rpm range and the mfg. can PROVE their stats

The alternator I am getting is a 350 amp from excessive amperage. I will have a couple of kinetic batteries and that is just to power my sound system. That will be more than enough. And if I have to I can put 2 of my f4s on the stock electrical system but I doubt I will have to do that and caps are worthless a good battery will do a better job.

Well I am getting a 350 amp alternator from excess amperage it is $630 and no it doesn't affect the stock electrical system with this bracket because you would keep the stock alternator charging the stock electrical system, you just need a second battery and some wiring. Any alternator from excess amperage would work with this bracket as long as it uses their standard case you can get an alternator with less output for alot less.

You could possibly be able to use this without using the stock alternator I would have to find out but youd probably be better off using the stock alternator and a 200 amp alternator you definetly wouldnt have any problems with the electrical system or light dimming.

Well I cant answer whether or not it will effect the electrical system if you use a high output alternator as a replacement for the stock alternator all I know is you can replace the stock alternator with a 350 amp with this kit. Now if you have two alternators it would be fine because the stock electrical wouldnt be touched.
