Thanks for the legs. I try to stay young and, like my car, not use my body too much. Actually, I had to stop playing hockey like 2.5 years ago because of injuries. That was hard since I was playing almost 2 games per week (goal tending - you know those quiet guys sitting all by themselves in the locker room ! ).

I thought I was done for today.

I was headed south on sources heading for the 20 west going up the elevated part at the bottom where it splits left/right. A minivan is sitting waiting to merge on the left (the side with the Ultramar), and then perfectly timed the idiot pulls across 3 lanes right in front of me (I was in the right lane). I slammed on the brakes and swerved skidding into the gap left by the van between it and the guardrail (the van still was crawling along at 20km/hr narrowing the gap as shit-for-brains was doodling along not realizing any of this was going on).

It was so unbelievably close I thought I was done for and was amazed that my car got its speed down so quickly. I was RIGHT up against the guardrail on the right so half the car was braking on snow/ice. I didn't lose steering throughout the emergency stop, and it handled it brilliantly. I have never in 9 years of driving (like an asshole I might add) come so close to getting into an accident. It was literally less than an inch on either side, no exageration. It was so close that 20 minutes later my hands were still shaking from the shock. I actually got out and checked the car because I could believe I didn't touch on either side... I still can't believe it.

Okay, that's it, story time is over. I'm going to be driving like an old lady for the next few days at least.

Actually, I work in Pointe-Claire, so that's where the software gets developped (In my case).

As for being a musician, no, but I do have a thing for 3D. I helped a friend who was programming a game with graphics (Turn-based strategy in a futuristic setup, think of it as some sort of Risk in *******. I like a scary story with a happy ending like Findtom's.

One of the things I love about BMWs are the incredible brakes. When I first got the Audi I was impressed with German car brakes. When I then first drove my wife's x3, I could not believe her braking power on the x3.

On our e90s, it is phenomenal. The ABS actually modulates so as to prevent a wheel from locking up. Therefore, when Findtom slammed on them, the ABS coupled with the DSC function actually must have eased off the brakes on the wheels on snow/ice just enough to prevent them from locking up, improving stopping without loss of control (steering). Also, when we slam the brakes hard, the computer recognizes this as emergency braking and applies full braking power (so if your slam so to speak exercises only 85% pressure, the computer makes up for the other 15%). Pretty cool stuff.

Glad to hear that the Findtom mobile has lived for another day.

That was what was so amazing about it. Even though there was no wheel lockup the stopping was still incredible. Like I said, I thought I was "done for." There was no doubt. I was headed straight for him, very fast, with nowhere to go except in to him, the guardrail, or both. I hit the brakes and did my best to keep it in between the two... and bang it's over with the BMW girly wheels still spinning strong.

I also could really feel the balance of the car... all four wheels holding the road, not just the front two with the back swerving all over the place. Incredible!

Just when I thought I couldn't love this car any more. Dollar for dollar this has to be the best purchase I've ever made.... okay a tie with my apartment, but still!

The more I think about the more I realize how lucky I was. There was nobody around in the immediate area except me and him, so think how close I must have been to him to not be able to swerve around the left side of him, but still be behind-right of him when it was all over. This is the part where everyone might lose their sympathly for me, but I was probably doing 100km/hr+ with him doing probably 30-40.

Glad you enjoyed my story! I just realized I used the word "dogshit" in an email to the CEO today... I think I must have still been in a state of shock when I got back to office. Let's hope it doesn't f-up my career prospects.

BTW... I saw a white 325i up ahead on the highway today on my way home. I sped up next to it thinking it might be Ssam, but it turned out to be a black woman. So Ssam, if that was your car with someone else driving you can tell the person that the shocked looking cracka was an internet buddy.
