Bad news

I have a quick question for those with experience. Yesterday a young girl pulled out in front of me and boom. The front end of my 3 week old baby is toast. Air bags deployed, all engine oil and coolant came out of the engine, hood, fenders, rad support, bumper, bumper cover, and OSS adaptive headlights are toast. Her insurance company is trying to saying they will repair the vehicle. I don't want it back because of resale value. We havent gone back and forth yet, but i just want another vehicle quick. Is an attorney the best option?

Also does anyone know if stock roadstars will fit on an e92? I don't want to lose my 313s

Id say first talk to the body shop, have them convince the adjuster that the vehicle is no longer safe to repair and drive, that will be your best bet. if they still demand on fixing the car, then get an attorney and see what you can do, but that won't be a fast process and will take time. amount of time depends on the other company and how much they fight it.

Most state's insurance regulations require 75% of the value of the car be reached before they total it out. If that is not reached then it get's repaired. So make sure you find a great body shop. After a repair price is figured out you can work w/ the body shop if you want to use after market upgrades, like a M3 bumper cover! Then decide to keep it or not. GL

this, but you're going to have to make it worth while for the repair shop. they don't make any $ off of total losses.

you should have just started the car without oil in it if you wanted it done.

Thanks to all for their replies. I am having the car taken to BMW for the estimates and then will go from there. Someone stated that the oil may have been from the oil pan or some lines, that it is unlikely to have cracked the block. I guess we will see. On average does a blemish on title from an accident devalue a car a certain amount?

if the title of the car is totaled, then yes. Also any accidents that show up on record also devalue the car. Basically, anything under perfect with a car will devalue it, so unless the car is totaled here and you get a new one, the car will be devalued some margin. Im not sure what your worry is with this however, if you don't plan on keeping the car, then why buy it? Just lease for 3 years, and get a new one. If you plan on keeping longer then this, is going to lose most of its value regardless. BMW's, only in VERY RARE situations, maintain value, most depreciate tremendously once driven off the lot.

Yeah I'm not hoping for the same situation as my coupe, where its actually appreciating. However I don't want to have them fix it and take an immediate 5k hit on it. Although maybe some choice cosmetic mods will make up a portion of that ?!

As long as it's repaired properly by a BMW certified shop, and you keep all documentation, I don't think you would have a problem reselling the car regardless you will take a hit on it as far as selling, and trading the car in, if you plan on running the car till it dies, it won't matter.

You'd still be able to get some money out it. Look up diminished value laws in your state
