Ship (BESS) problems

For those of you who have BMWs coming in from Germany to the US/Canada.
If your vehicle is aboard the BESS, a Panama registered Wallenius Wilhelmsen ship that left Bremerhaven on the 27th, you've been struck by bad luck.

Two days ago, the ship left Southampton, and something was obviously wrong as it started going into the Solent (the sound between Isle of Wight and the mainland), but then turned around and went around Isle of Wight instead. It then proceeded westwards into the Atlantic as it should.
Yesterday, it suddenly did another series of abrupt turns in the middle of the Celtic sea, and several tug boats showed up. After this, it was limping towards Ireland (not a scheduled destination) at around 1-2 knots.

Now it's registered as drifting, south of Ireland.
A day old data showing it limping towards Ireland and then going adrift here.

If your BMW is aboard this ship, as mine is (and up to 6000 other cars), don't expect to get your car any time soon.

And if anyone has more information, it would be welcome.

My car is also on the Bess. I've been watching it for a few days. When it first left Bremerhaven it did something similar but I don't think it's an indication that something is wrong. It has, so far, met all of the projected port arrival times within a few hours (Zeebrugge and Southampton).

Perhaps they are doing testing, training, or avoiding storms.

(Maybe this should go in the Order Tracking forum.)

No storms. Other ships in the area don't do the same.
This is how it has moved the last two days. (Hit "track" unless the track shows up).
And then there are the two tug boats that visited on Sunday/Monday in the middle of the Celtic sea... And the DRIFTING status and itinerary removal.

If you still like to think you'll get your car on time, good for you. We need more optimists in the world.
Personally, I think this will cause at least a week's delay, much more if they have to reschedule to another ship and reload.

What Order Tracking Forum? I can't see any such forum on the forum page. Are you thinking of That Other Web Board?

I noticed the drifting yesterday. As of now the ship isn't showing up on Marine Traffic but I did find it on Vessel Finder. I'm on the Bess btw. Sucks

The ship is definitely wandering/drifting around and I don't know what that means. All I know is that it made its other destinations on time despite previous wanderings. I guess I am an optimist.

Yay.
If I were to guess, they had engine problems or overhauls done at open sea (and if I'm to be evil and speculate, in international waters where the pesky authorities have no say and can't invoke the extra scrutiny for ships running under convenience flags - Panama is both on the French black list and US target list).

I still doubt they'll make New York on the 13th, though, but a few days extra, we can live with!

I'm saddened that BMW do hire ships that run under convenience flags, though. I'd rather pay a few hundred bucks more. But, anyhow.

The Bess is back in tracking range, just off the coast of Nova Scotia. Hopefully there are no further delays.

Ah, perhaps.
Maybe BMW fitted our new electric steering to the boat...

Sorry - couldn't resist!
