DIY - Install BimmerLife Ignition Coils on E92 335i

DIY - Install Bimmerlife Ignition Coils

Pretty sure this DIY has been already done, but just in case someone is looking for it, ill just leave this here

Basically the BL ignition coils are plug and play. You will need to reflash your tune using MHD and select the bimmerlife coil option in the menu before you flash, otherwise is simply plug and play. No need to re-gap your spark plugs if you dont want to the BL coils will work fine.

You can of course re-gap your spark plugs, the gap setting will depend on your set up, boost levels and the kind of spark plugs you are using.
There is plenty of information on this on the forums

Basically just remove the stock ignition coils, install the BL coils and plug them in to the stock wiring (in order of course). Then you need to connect the positive and negative wires to points near the under bonnet battery terminal. Flash your MHD map with the bimmer life coil option ticked in the options menu and you are good to go.... takes about 20-30 mins. Removing the engine cowl make this much easier to do (doh)

Hope this helps someone

not sure. I think the MHD is required to make changes to the DME post installation of the coils

similar design or....basically a R8 coil? I'm hoping it's not the latter. $379+ for some wire harness adapter is a bit expensive. Nice DIY, nonetheless, OP.

Basically a R8 coil with connectors for the N54
Does noticeably improve the smoothness of the engine

Do anyone know how to make own wire harness for R8 coils? bmw coils have 3 wires, R8 has 4 and 2 of them are + and - . That is total of 5 wires. So I wonder if someone knows what the diagram looks like. Is ground from bmw harness connected to the new ground for r8 coils?

I know you can by a harness, but it may be expensive if you live outside us with shipment and taxes on total price incl. shipment.

Thanks for this DIY - just put on my harness with Delphi coils - GN10446

Runs great, but the connectors are still frail - I broke off two just during install

For those of you contemplating these coils you should be aware that they do not seat correctly on an N54. They need to be modified to fit correctly. There's another forum where this is discussed at length. There's also a new harness and BL are being nice and replacing the old ones for the price of shipping I believe.

Google BL coil investigation and solution

Hasn’t there been a revised BL harness? Which was made by Nelson Racing Wheels?
