New member with a question
Hello everyone
Just selled my bike (2005 Yamaha Fz6) and put an order on a 320ci. I have a question that might sound stupid but i have little experience with cars so forgive my ignorance. I opted for the 18" 189 rims instead of the 17" standard ones. My question is how do bigger wheels change the behaviour of the car on the road Thanks |

Several changes would occur. The main one I can think of is that the tire's sidewalls will be shorter and won't flex as much going around turns. The car would feel a bit more stable.
The wheel diameter and probably its mass increases so it takes more fuel to start them spinning and more braking to stop them due to mass moment of inertia.

In short, yes, it'll change, but depending on what your stock set up is and what the new wheel's dimensions are, it'll affect it differently.
Let me know what wheel or what wheel set up you are trying to go for, and I can probably tell you what you may experience as a result of it. |

As described in BMW brochure:
Alloy wheels star spoke 189 with mixed tire, 8 J x 18 inch, 225/40 R18 front 8,5 J x 18 inch, 255/35 R18 rear 2.0 liter engine 170Hp/210 Nm torque I did NOT opt for the sport package, sport suspension or anything like that |

So are you comparing the 18s to the 17s?
If so, the 18s will probably absorb less impact from the road, so the ride may be slightly more rough (mainly dependent upon the sidewall of the tires). Tires may cost a bit more. 18s are slightly heavier in weight, but you won't notice it probably, since the oem wheels were probably not designed with weight savings in mind anyways. Depending on what the tires would have been on the 17, if they are wider on the 18 now, you may experience some more slight tramlining - not a big deal really. |
