Need Advice - RFT's Warranty
I'm taking my delivery by the end of this week on 335 sedan. Is it worth buying the RFT warranty? In Canada, it is around $850 with taxes in.

Depends on your situation. How are the road conditions? How often have you ruined tires and rims?

3400 miles on the clock and I already have a bubble on the tire. 2nd week into my summer tires.
Haggle the warranty price and buy it! It will pay for itself in 2 tires. |

Search this forum for 'tire' 'warranty'.
I remember reading that other, non-dealer warranties were much, much cheaper. I paid US$500 to the dealership. Replaced 2 tires already, $360/tire. Yeah, I came out 'ahead', but could have gotten insurance cheaper elsewhere (AAA, local tire shop). Research first! |

thats also not taking into the peace of mind and ease of using the warranty through BMW, if you have a 3rd party insurance you will probably have to pay up front and claim later, where with the BMW one they just replace the tire and deal with the warranty themselves.

Don't all the dealers sell 3rd party insurance anyway? Is there an 'offical' BMW tire warranty? I didn't think there was.

Does your new 335 have the sport package?
if so, I think more important to get it than if not. 18" rims, and lower AR tires, are not only more susceptible to damage, but usually cost a lot more to replace (although I have not priced out these specific tires/rims). Hence a greater value proposition of the insurance on sport models, IMO. I used the insurance policy on my last car within the first 500 miles (damaged both the 18" rim and the tire). Personally, I think non-sport model insurance policy should be cheaper. is it?

yah the dealership insurance is 3rd party, but they handle the claims and such, so its almost like a BMW insurance

Tire Warranty
I just took delivery of my 335i this past weekend and I paid $599.00 for the tire/wheel warranty - yes that's in Canadian. I also asked for and received a letter from the dealer that guaranteed any tires/wheeles I might purchase from a 3rd party so I don't get screwed when I buy winter wheels and tires somewhere else and have a problem. I am disgusted that the only winter wheel/tire package from BMW costs $3000.00 and I am determined to buy elsewhere and expect to save $1000.00. So, ya - I guess I'm throwing my support behind buying the warranty but you should be able to get a better price.

Keep in mind, just because it's "warrantied" doesn't mean they'll actually have one in physical stock. I know at my dealer they're stingy on loaners, so they'd expect me to have my car sit and me take the bus while waiting for the tire to show up.

Tire warranty
IanR
Did you buy from BK Motors. Who did you deal with on the tire warranty? $599 you say and a letter. That's a heck of a deal I think. I am dealing with Ezio N. seams like an OK guy. |

For all the warranty offerings Ive opted out of and never had anything break (TVs, computers, appliances), i figure if something goes wrong i'm still ahead. It seems everything thats sold needs an 'extended warranty' anymore. Businesses love them cause it's a huge cash cow. Ive had one flat, and it went flat while parked in the garage. Not a issue for myself.
